The Nickel District Conservation Authority is a conservation authority in Greater Sudbury, Ontario. Formed in 1973 by the merger of two former conservation authorities in the region, the Junction Creek Conservation Authority in Sudbury and the Whitson Valley Conservation Authority in Valley East, the authority oversees the conservation, restoration, development and management of natural resources in the Sudbury area. The NDCA has jurisdiction over an area of , centred on the Wanapitei River, Vermilion River and Whitefish River watersheds. Conservation Authority (Canada)
A conservation authority is a local, community-based natural resource management agency based in Ontario, Canada. Conservation authorities represent groupings of municipalities on a watershed basis and work in partnership with other agencies to carry out natural resource management activities within their respective watersheds, on behalf of their member municipalities and the Province of Ontario. The 1946 ''Conservation Authorities Act'' provides the means by which municipalities within a common watershed can petition the Province of Ontario to form a conservation authority for that watershed to undertake programs of natural resource management. Greater Sudbury
Sudbury, officially the City of Greater Sudbury is the largest city in Northern Ontario by population, with a population of 166,004 at the 2021 Canadian Census. A valley is an elongated low area often running between hills or mountains, which will typically contain a river or stream running from one end to the other. Most valleys are formed by erosion of the land surface by rivers or streams over a very long period. Some valleys are formed through erosion by glacial ice. Wanapitei River
The Wanapitei River (French: ''Rivière Wanapitei'') is a river in Northeastern Ontario, Canada. It is in the Great Lakes Basin and is a right tributary of the French River. The river's source is Scotia Lake, a small lake east of Halfway Lake Provincial Park in Sudbury District. From there, it flows north and east, taking in two small tributaries and continuing to a point 20 kilometres southwest of the Ishpatina Ridge, where it turns south. After approximately 60 kilometres, the river flows into Lake Wanapitei in the northeastern portion of Greater Sudbury. At the south end of the lake, the river continues, flowing south until it joins the French River near the latter's mouth on Georgian Bay on Lake Huron. The river is approximately in length and is a popular wilderness canoeing route. Whitefish River (Sudbury District)
The Whitefish River is a river in Sudbury District in northeastern Ontario, Canada and a tributary of Lake Huron. Course The river begins at Daisy Lake in the city of Greater Sudbury. It flows through Richard, McFarlane and Long Lakes to the unincorporated Eden township, where it flows into Round Lake on the Whitefish Lake Ojibwa reserve. From Round Lake, the river flows into Lake Panache. Near the western end of Lake Panache, the river flows into Walker Lake, Little Bear Lake and Plunge Lake along the outer boundary of Killarney Lakelands and Headwaters Provincial Park. Where Plunge Lake joins Hannah Lake, the river flows westward, entering Lang Lake. It picks up the Howry Creek system as a tributary at the Whitefish River reserve, and subsequently flows into Charlton Lake.
