Nick Thornicroft
Nicholas David Thornicroft (born 23 January 1985) is an English first-class cricketer. He is a left-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-fast bowler, who played first-class cricket for Yorkshire County Cricket Club from 2002 until 2007. Career Thornicroft made his debut for the Yorkshire Cricket Board in 2001, in the Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy. He played in his debut first-class match for Yorkshire County Cricket Club in the 2002 County Championship, although Yorkshire finished that season in bottom place in the First Division, being relegated to Division Two for the 2003 season. Thornicroft held the lowest first-class bowling average of the Yorkshire team in 2002. He was the youngest ever Roses Match debutant, that year, when he played for Yorkshire against Lancashire at the age of 17. Roses Match
The Roses Match refers to any game of cricket played between Yorkshire County Cricket Club and Lancashire County Cricket Club. Yorkshire's emblem is the white rose, while Lancashire's is the red rose. The associations go back to the Wars of the Roses in the 15th century. These matches have a long and proud history and are traditionally the hardest fought matches in the English first class game, with many dour draws recorded as both teams battled to avoid the ignominy of defeat. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. Essex County Cricket Club
Essex County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Essex. Founded in 1876, the club had minor county status until 1894 when it was promoted to first-class status pending its entry into the County Championship in 1895, since then the team has played in every top-level domestic cricket competition in England.
