Nicholas Percy (born 5 December 1994) is a Scottish athlete specialising in the discus throw. He represented Great Britain at the 2017 World Championships without reaching the final. He won a silver medal at the 2013 European Junior Championships. His personal best in the event is 65.00 metres set in Manchester in 2022. 2022 World Athletics Championships
The 2022 World Athletics Championships was the eighteenth edition of the World Athletics Championships. It was held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, United States, from July 15–24, 2022, with the country hosting that competition for the first time. The competition was originally scheduled for August 6–15, 2021, but it was postponed by one year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, World Athletics banned all Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials from participating at the championships. In addition, the stringent vaccination requirements for people entering the United States caused visa delays for participants and officials, with some ultimately being unable to enter the country. These issues caused the final total to stand at 179 nations (180 including the Athlete Refugee Team), the lowest number since Tokyo 1991. Summary The first throw of the final was a personal best by American Mason Finley, 67.07 metres. It only held the lead for two throwers until Andrius Gudžius threw 67.52 metres. Those held up through the round. At the start of the second round, Finley added almost another metre to his personal best, throwing 68.03 metres. The next thrower, world leader Daniel Ståhl went better throwing 69.19 metres. The next thrower was Gudžius, who edged two centimetres further with a 69.21 metres. Athletics was one of ten core sports that appeared at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. As a founding sport, athletics has appeared consistently since its introduction at the 1911 Inter-Empire Games; the recognised precursor to the Commonwealth Games. The competition took place between Sunday 27 July and Saturday 2 August at the temporarily modified Hampden Park, Scotland's national football stadium. The programme commenced with the 26.2 mile marathon, which started and finished at Glasgow Green and included numerous para-sport events throughout. Racewalking events were dropped from the programme for 2014 – a move condemned by walking athletes.
