Niaz Morshed (Khulna Cricketer)
Niaz Murshed ( bn, নিয়াজ মোরশেদ; also Morshed; born May 13, 1966) is a Bangladeshi chess player. In 1987 he became the first South Asian to earn the Grandmaster title. Early life Murshed was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh, to Manzur Murshed and Najma Ahmed. He picked up the game from his older brother. His neighbor was Jamilur Rahman, who later became a national champion himself. These favorable conditions may have contributed to the young Murshed's devotion to chess. Murshed passed his SSC exam in 1983 from St. Joseph Higher Secondary School and HSC exam in 1985 from Dhaka College.. Grandmaster (chess)
Grandmaster (GM) is a title awarded to chess players by the world chess organization FIDE. Apart from World Champion, Grandmaster is the highest title a chess player can attain. Once achieved, the title is held for life, though exceptionally it has been revoked for cheating. The title of Grandmaster, along with the lesser FIDE titles of International Master (IM) and FIDE Master (FM), is open to all players regardless of gender. The great majority of grandmasters are men, but 40 women have been awarded the GM title as of 2022, out of a total of about 2000 grandmasters. Since about the year 2000, most of the top 10 women have held the GM title. There is also a Woman Grandmaster title with lower requirements awarded only to women. Alexander Shabalov
Alexander Anatolyevich Shabalov (russian: Алекса́ндр Анато́льевич Шаба́лов; lv, Aleksandrs Šabalovs; born September 12, 1967) is an American chess grandmaster and a four-time winner of the United States Chess Championship (1993, 2000, 2003, 2007). He also won or tied for first place seven times in the U.S. Open Chess Championship (1993, 1999, 2003, 2007, 2008, 2015, 2016). Shabalov was born in Riga, Latvia, and was known during much of his career for courting complications even at the cost of objective soundness, much like his fellow Latvians Mikhail Tal and Alexei Shirov. He has transitioned to a more conservative and positional playing style as of 2019. Merab Gagunashvili ( ka, მერაბ გაგუნაშვილი; born 3 January 1985) is a Georgian chess grandmaster. He is a two-time Georgian Chess Champion. Chess career In 2001, he won the silver medal in the World Junior Chess Championship. He became a grandmaster at the age of 17. Gagunashvili won the 2006/07 Hastings International Chess Congress edging out on tiebreak defending champion Valeriy Neverov, after both players scored 7/9 points. Elshan Moradiabadi
Elshan Moradi Abadi ( fa, الشن مرادی آبادی , born 22 May 1985) is an Iranian-American chess grandmaster. He took part in the Chess World Cup 2011, but was eliminated in the first round by Leinier Domínguez. When he was 16 he won the 2001 Iranian Chess Championship with a score of 10/11, ahead of Ehsan Ghaem Maghami. He was one of the members of Iran national team in the first World Mind Sports Games held in Beijing (2008), in which the Iranian team surprisingly clinched the third place ahead of Hungary, USA and India. In 2009 he tied for 3rd–8th with Anton Filippov, Vadim Malakhatko, Merab Gagunashvili, Alexander Shabalov and Niaz Murshed in the Ravana Challenge Tournament in Colombo. Anton Filippov (born 6 December 1986 in Tashkent) is an Uzbekistani chess Grandmaster (2008). He won the Asian Under-16 Chess Championship in 2001 in Doha, and the Asian U18 Championship in 2004. In 2007 he tied for 1st–3rd with Vladimir Egin and Timur Gareev in the Uzbekistani Chess Championship. The Commonwealth Chess Championship is a gathering of chess players from Commonwealth countries. Winners : History A championship was planned for New Zealand in 1949, but it was canceled because the British Chess Federation was unable to attend. Maxim Dlugy
Maxim Alexandrovich Dlugy (born January 29, 1966) is an American chess player with the FIDE title of Grandmaster. He was born in Moscow, USSR, and arrived with his family in the United States in 1977. He was awarded the International Master title in 1982. He won the World Junior Chess Championship in 1985. He was awarded the Grandmaster title in 1986 for his result at the World Chess Olympiad in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. At this event, he played on the U.S. team, which was in first place going into the last round. Nigel David Short (born 1 June 1965) is an English chess grandmaster, columnist, coach, and commentator, who is the vice-president of FIDE since October 2018. Short earned the Grandmaster title at the age of 19, and was ranked third in the world by FIDE from July 1988 to July 1989. In 1993, he became the first English player to play a World Chess Championship match, when he qualified to play Garry Kasparov in the World Chess Championship 1993 in London, where Kasparov won 12½ to 7½.
