Nexus Mustang
The Nexus Mustang is a two place homebuilt aircraft designed around the construction techniques of the Midget Mustang. Design and development Designer Dick Eaves used his experience building a Baby Ace, Skyhopper II, Wittman Tailwinds, Wag-Aero CUBys, and a Midget Mustang to develop a new two seat tandem homebuilt design. The aircraft uses an all-aluminum construction with fiberglass nose cowling. The tail surfaces and spar extrusion are modeled after a Mustang II. The Ace ''Baby Ace,'' a single-seat, single-engine, parasol wing, fixed-gear light airplane, was marketed as a homebuilt aircraft when its plans were first offered for sale in 1929 — one of the first homebuilt aircraft plans available in the United States. Plans are still available and Baby Aces are still being built. Orland Corben designed a series of aircraft for the Ace Aircraft Manufacturing Company, the Baby Ace, Junior Ace, and Super Ace. Wittman Tailwind
The Wittman W-8 Tailwind is a popular two-seat light aircraft for homebuilding. It is a high-wing, braced cabin monoplane of taildragger configuration. It is constructed with a steel tubing fuselage, wood wings, and fabric covering. It offers exceptional cruising speeds and is economical to operate and maintain. Design and development The Tailwind is the third in a series of high-wing aircraft designed by Sylvester J. "Steve" Wittman (1904–1995), a well-known air racing pilot and race plane designer, who also played an important role in the emergence of homebuilt aircraft with the Wittman Tailwind and other designs in the United States. The first, the Wittman Buttercup two-seater, and later the Wittman Big X four-seater, which was bought by Cessna to use its spring steel landing gear.
