China Next Generation Internet
The China Next Generation Internet (CNGI) () project is an ongoing plan for the accelerated rollout and application of the IPv6 protocol nationwide. An author from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) summarized IPv6 protocol as "not yet the whole of the next-generation Internet" but merely the beginning and a platform for the next generation of the Internet. China has aimed for widespread deployment in cloud computing, 5G, Internet of Things (IoT) and the testing of autonomous self driving vehicles. All of which requires a lot of IP addresses and why the IPv6 rollout is highly valued as it provides near limitless IP addresses and can accommodate the country's rapid growth in new-age technologies. Future Internet is a general term for research activities on new architectures for the Internet. History While the technical development of the Internet was an extensive research topic from the beginning, an increased public awareness of several critical shortcomings in terms of performance, reliability, scalability, security and many other categories including societal, economical and business aspects, led to future Internet research efforts. The Next Generation Internet Program (also ''NGI'', ''NGI Initiative'') was a United States Government project intended to drastically increase the speed of the Internet. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN ) is an American multistakeholder group and nonprofit organization responsible for coordinating the maintenance and procedures of several databases related to the namespaces and numerical spaces of the Internet, ensuring the network's stable and secure operation. Internet Assigned Numbers Authority
The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) is a standards organization that oversees global IP address allocation, autonomous system number allocation, root zone management in the Domain Name System (DNS), media types, and other Internet Protocol-related symbols and Internet numbers. Currently it is a function of ICANN, a nonprofit private American corporation established in 1998 primarily for this purpose under a United States Department of Commerce contract. ICANN managed IANA directly from 1998 through 2016, when it was transferred to Public Technical Identifiers (PTI), an affiliate of ICANN that operates IANA today.
