Newton Compton Editori, sometimes spelled Newton & Compton, is an Italian publisher. The publisher was founded in Rome by Vittorio Avanzini in 1969. The house has published mostly paperbacks and low cost editions, including literature classics, essays and poetry. After devoting its activities mainly to reprints, starting from 2000s Newton Compton also publishes previously untranslated horror, science fiction, fantasy and historical novels by authors such as Simon Scarrow, Lisa J. Smith and Stuart MacBride. It has also published original works by Italian authors, including Andrea Frediani and Claudio Rendina Claudio is an Italian and Spanish first name. Simon Scarrow
Simon Scarrow (born 3 October 1962) is a British author. Scarrow completed a master's degree at the University of East Anglia after working at the Inland Revenue, and then went into teaching as a lecturer, firstly at East Norfolk Sixth Form College, then at City College Norwich. He is best known for his ''Eagles of the Empire'' series of Roman military fiction set in the territories of the Roman Empire, covering the second invasion of Britain and the subsequent prolonged campaign undertaken by the rump of the Julio-Claudian dynasty. As of December 2019, there are 18 books in the series; the latest, "Traitors of Rome", was published in 2019. He has also written another series, ''Revolution'', focusing on Wellington and Napoleon, whose first title, '' Young Bloods'', was published in 2006. Stuart MacBride is a Scottish writer, most famous for his crime thrillers set in the "Granite City" of Aberdeen and featuring Detective Sergeant Logan McRae. Biography Stuart MacBride was born 27 February 1969 in Dumbarton, Scotland and raised in Aberdeen. His careers include scrubbing toilets offshore, graphic design, web design and IT/computer programming. He studied architecture at Heriot-Watt University. MacBride's publishing deal was secured with the writing of ''Halfhead''; however, the publishers were more interested in ''Cold Granite'', concerning DS Logan McRae. He was signed on a three-book Logan deal, which was further extended to six books. Andrea Frediani
Andrea Frediani (born 1963) is an Italian historian and novelist. Born in Rome, he graduated in Letters with a dissertation on medieval history; after graduating he wrote for several youth magazines and, subsequently, for historical magazines. In 1997 Newton & Compton published his first book, entitled ''Gli assedi di Roma'' ("The Sieges of Rome"). His first novel, entitled ''300 guerrieri'' and inspired by the Battle of Thermopylae, was released in 2007. In 2008 he published ''Jerusalem'', a historical novel mixing the events of the First Crusade with the story of a fictional gospel by James, Jesus Christ's brother.
