''News on the Green'' is a monthly print newspaper and online news source published in Brookfield Township, Ohio that serves as the primary print news source for Brookfield, Yankee Lake, and Masury. The publication was founded in 2017 by Joe Pinchot and Judi Swogger and is published by PS Pinchot-Swogger Publishing, LLC. History ''News on the Green'' was initially founded as a Facebook page by Joe Pinchot and Judi Swogger, two journalists who formerly worked at '' The Herald,'' based out of Sharon, Pennsylvania, in October 2017. A website was launched alongside the first printed publication in November 2017. The publication was founded in order to cover the news from the region. In 2018, Joe Pinchot was named to thOhio School Boards Associations media honor roll for provided fair and unbiased coverage about public schools in Ohio. Brookfield Township is one of the twenty-four townships of Trumbull County, Ohio, United States. The 2000 census found 10,020 people in the township, 9,921 of whom lived in the unincorporated portions of the township. Yankee Lake, Ohio
Yankee Lake is a village in eastern Trumbull County, Ohio, United States, located along Yankee Run. The population was 75 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Youngstown–Warren metropolitan area. The community is served by the Brookfield, Ohio post office. History The village of Yankee Lake takes its name from a former man-made lake located along Yankee Run. First known as Lingamore Lake, it was renamed to match the name of the creek which was dammed to create it. Ernest Houston Stewart and John Jurko purchased land around the creek and opened a dance hall in 1928. It became a regular stop for acts during the Big Band era including Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Cab Calloway, Count Basie, and Duke Ellington. Masury, Ohio
Masury is a census-designated place (CDP) in Trumbull County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,618 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Youngstown–Warren– Boardman, OH- PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The community has the name of Colonel Fred L. M. Masury, a first settler. At 7:10 p.m. on May 31, 1985, Masury was struck by an F-5 tornado as it passed through Hubbard into Wheatland, Pennsylvania. One person died in Masury as a result of the tornado. The base of the tornado spread over half a mile and wind speed was estimated at over 300 mph. The storm moved through Masury quickly and went on to destroy nearly 95% of Wheatland's industrial area. ''The Herald'' is a six-day morning daily newspaper published in Sharon, Pennsylvania, covering Mercer County and the greater Shenango Valley area of Pennsylvania. It is owned by Community Newspaper Holdings Inc., Montgomery, Ala. History ''The Sharon Herald'', a weekly newspaper, began publication April 14, 1864, founded by R.C. and James Frey. It was converted to a daily newspaper nearly 45 years later, April 12, 1909. The newspaper's office at the foot of Pitt Street in Sharon was washed into the Shenango River during a flood in March 1913. The newspaper missed only four issues and resumed publication with temporary production first in Farrell and then for about a month at the printing plant of the New Castle News before a new office and pressroom were set up on Chestnut Street in Sharon in the Willsonia Building.
