Verlagsgruppe News Gesellschaft m.b.H. (News Publishing Group) is an Austrian publishing company that publishes fifteen magazines, including ''Profil'' and ''NEWS'', two weekly news magazines, and ''News online''. News has over 500 employees and approximately 60% of the magazine advertising market in Austria. Prior to their merger in 2001, leadership in the Austrian magazine market was contested between News and the Kurier Group, which at that time published ''Profil''. Austria, , bar, Östareich officially the Republic of Austria, is a country in the southern part of Central Europe, lying in the Eastern Alps. ''NEWS'' is an Austrian weekly news magazine published in German and based in Vienna, Austria. The weekly is the major news magazine in the country and has been in circulation since October 1992. History and profile ''NEWS'' magazine was established by Helmut and Wolfgang Fellner and was first published in October 1992. The Verlagsgruppe NEWS was the publisher of the magazine which is published weekly. The Fellner brothers sold the magazine to Gruner + Jahr, a subsidiary of Bertelsmann. ''NEWS'' covers entertainment and lifestyle topics as well as news on current affairs, politics and culture. In the 1990s Senta Ziegler served as the editor-in-chief of the magazine. Until 2008 Andreas Weber was the editor-in-chief of the weekly. Then Atha Athanasiadis served as the editor-in-chief of the ''NEWS'' magazine from 2008 to February 2010. ''profil'' is an Austrian weekly news magazine published in German and based in Vienna. It has been in circulation since 1970. The magazine is sometimes considered the Austrian counterpart to ''Der Spiegel''. History and profile ''profil'' was founded in 1970 by Oscar Bronner, who also founded the magazine ''trend'' and the daily newspaper ''Der Standard''. The magazine is headquartered in Vienna. The first edition of ''profil'' came out as a monthly on 7 September 1970. Starting in October 1972, it was published every two weeks and from January 1974 every week.
