New Zealand PGA Championship
The New Zealand PGA Championship is a golf tournament on the PGA Tour of Australasia. It is currently known for sponsorship reasons as the SEC NZ PGA Championship. History The tournament been played since 1909, with some gap periods. It was originally a match play event and switched to stroke play in 1965. Major championship winners who have claimed the New Zealand PGA title include Sir Bob Charles, Peter Thomson, Kel Nagle, and Tony Jacklin. The event is also notable for Masashi Ozaki's lone international win. Sponsorship problems caused the tournament to be terminated after the 1987 event. Te Puke
Te Puke is a town located 18 kilometres southeast of Tauranga in the Western Bay of Plenty of New Zealand. It is particularly well-known for the cultivation of Kiwifruit. Te Puke is close to Tauranga, Mount Maunganui, Papamoa, and Maketu, which are all coastal towns/cities, as well as the small townships of Waitangi, Manoeka, Pongakawa, and Paengaroa. The Tauranga Eastern Link, completed in 2015, moved State Highway 2 away from Te Puke and removed large volumes of traffic from its streets. Masashi Ozaki
is a Japanese professional golfer. Ozaki is often known as Jumbo Ozaki (ジャンボ尾崎 ''Janbo Ozaki'') on account of his height and length off the tee. He featured in the top ten of the Official World Golf Rankings for almost 200 weeks between 1989 and 1998. He is the most successful player of all time on the Japan Golf Tour, having led the money list a record 12 times and won 94 tournaments, over 40 more than the second highest player. Ozaki was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2011. Biography Ozaki was born in Kaifu District, Tokushima. He was a professional baseball pitcher/outfielder from 1965 to 1967 with the Nishitetsu Lions, but he turned to professional golf at the age of 23 and won the Japan PGA Championship the following year. Deyen Mitchell "Digger" Lawson (born 4 January 1991) is an Australian professional golfer playing on the European Tour and PGA Tour of Australasia. Early golf career Lawson started playing golf at the age of 10. In 2017, he completed a golf professional trainee-ship at Curlewis Golf Club in Geelong, Australia. Professional career Lawson earned a place on the PGA Tour of Australasia in 2016. Ashley Hall (golfer)
Ashley Hall (born 3 November 1983) is an Australian professional golfer. He played on the Web.com Tour from 2013 to 2015. He was in a playoff in successive events in 2013, the United Leasing Championship and the Utah Championship, but lost on both occasions. At the end of 2016 he lost another playoff in the Emirates Australian Open and was 4th in the Australian PGA Championship two weeks later. Ben Campbell (born 20 August 1991) is a professional golfer from New Zealand. Since 2018, he has played primarily on the Asian Tour where he won the 2023 Hong Kong Open (golf), Hong Kong Open. He has also won the New Zealand PGA Championship on the PGA Tour of Australasia. David Smail (born 20 May 1970) is a professional golfer from New Zealand. He was born in and resides in Hamilton, New Zealand. He won the New Zealand Open in 2001. Kazuma Kobori (born 25 October 2001) is a New Zealand professional golfer. He won the 2019 New Zealand PGA Championship and the individual title at the 2023 Eisenhower Trophy. Amateur career In 2019, Kobori was runner-up at the Australian Boys' Amateur. He won the SEC NZ PGA Championship on the PGA Tour of Australasia and was runner-up at the Carrus Open on the Charles Tour. In 2023, Kobori cemented his position as New Zealand's top male amateur golfer. He won the Australian Amateur two strokes ahead of Arron Edwards-Hill of England. Josh Geary (born 11 December 1984) is a New Zealand professional golfer who plays on the Challenge Tour. Professional career Geary turned professional in 2007 and played primarily on the Canadian Tour until 2010. He won the Saskatchewan Open in 2008 and was runner-up in the 2010 The Economical Insurance Group Seaforth Country Classic behind Kent Eger.
