New York's 9th State Assembly district is one of the 150 districts in the New York State Assembly. It has been represented by Republican Michael Durso since 2021. Geography District 9 includes portions of Nassau and Suffolk counties. It includes portions of the towns of Oyster Bay, Babylon, and Islip, and the villages of Massapequa Park, Babylon, and Brightwaters. Michael Durso
Michael Durso is an American politician serving as a member of the New York State Assembly from the 9th district. Elected in November 2020, he assumed office on January 6, 2021. Early life Durso was born in Nassau County, New York and raised in the town of Massapequa Park. Growing up, Durso's parents worked multiple jobs to support the family. After graduating from high school, Durso became a sanitation worker. Career Prior to entering politics, Durso has worked as a sanitation supervisor. He is a member of CSEA Local 881. He previously worked as a public safety officer at Hofstra University. Fire Island
Fire Island is the large center island of the outer barrier islands parallel to the South Shore of Long Island, in the U.S. state of New York. Occasionally, the name is used to refer collectively to not only the central island, but also Long Beach Barrier Island, Jones Beach Island, and Westhampton Island, since the straits that separate these islands are ephemeral. Edward P. Mangano (born March 24, 1962) is an American politician from the state of New York. A Republican, he was the Nassau County Executive from January 2010 to December 2017, and a former legislator in Nassau County, New York. He was elected in 1995 and served seven terms as a county legislator. In November 2009, he defeated incumbent Thomas R. Suozzi for Nassau County Executive. In November 2013, he was re-elected, again defeating Suozzi, by 59% to 41%. In October 2016, a 13-count federal indictment for fraud and bribery was unsealed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York against Mangano, his wife Linda, and Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto. He did not seek reelection in 2017. He and his wife were both convicted in March 2019, and are both facing up to 20 years in prison. Joseph S. Saladino (born March 28, 1961) is an American politician. He is the current Supervisor of the Town of Oyster Bay in Nassau County, New York. Saladino previously served as a member of the New York Assembly. He is a Republican. Early life and career Saladino was born in Massapequa, New York in the year 1961, and he graduated from Massapequa High School in 1979. His mother, Jessie Saladino, was a teacher, and his father was the late Joseph J. Saladino, a former New York Supreme Court Justice. He attended Tulane University and the New York Institute of Technology; he received a masters degree in broadcast journalism from the latter. He graduated summa cum laude. Christine Pellegrino is a former member of the New York State Assembly from the 9th District. She is a member of the Democratic Party. Prior to her election, Pellegrino was a teacher for 25 years, spending most of her career teaching in Baldwin Public Schools. Pellegrino is the 2020 Democratic nominee for the 4th District of the New York Senate. Pellegrino served as a delegate for Bernie Sanders during the 2016 presidential primaries. Michael John LiPetri (born July 10, 1990) is a Republican attorney and politician from New York State who served as a New York State Assemblyman from the 9th district, until his term expired at the end of 2020. Located on the South Shore of Long Island, the district includes several communities including Massapequa, Massapequa Park and South Farmingdale in Nassau County and West Babylon, Babylon village, West Islip and part of Brightwaters in Suffolk County, as well as several barrier islands in the Great South Bay. Great South Bay
The Great South Bay is a lagoon situated between Long Island and Fire Island, in the State of New York. It is about long and has an average depth of 4 feet 3 inches and is 20 feet at its deepest.
