New World Press (NWP) () is a Beijing-based Chinese publishing house. New World Press has published more than 5000 titles, publishing exclusively in foreign languages including English before 1997, and exclusively in Chinese after 2002. New World Press was established in 1966 as a subsidiary of Foreign Languages Press (FLP), and became independent from FLP in 1986, though both were owned by China International Publishing Group (CIPG). Foreign Languages Press
Foreign Languages Press is a publishing house located in China. Based in Beijing, it was founded in 1952 and currently forms part of the China International Publishing Group, which is owned and controlled by the Publicity Department of the Chinese Communist Party. The press publishes books on a wide range of topics in eighteen languages spoken primarily outside China. Much of its output is aimed at the international community – its 1960s editions of works by Marx and Lenin are still widely circulated – but it also publishes some material aimed at foreign language students within China. Beginning in the 1950s many works of classical and modern Chinese literature were translated into English by translators such as Gladys Yang, Yang Xianyi and Sidney Shapiro. As of 2008, the house had published over 30,000 titles in a total of 43 languages. The China International Publishing Group (CIPG), also known as the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration, is a foreign-language publishing organization in China owned and controlled by the Central Propaganda Department of the Chinese Communist Party. Established in October 1949, it has developed into a global media corporation. Organization CIPG owns seven subordinate publishing houses, i.e. Foreign Languages Press, New World Press, Morning Glory Publishers, Sinolingua, China Pictorial Publishing House, Dolphin Books and New Star Publishers. The organisation annually publishes over 3,000 titles of books and around 50 journals in more than 10 languages.
