New Vision
The ''New Vision'' is a Ugandan English-language newspaper published daily in print form and online. Overview ''New Vision'' is one of two main national English-language newspapers in Uganda, the other being the '' Daily Monitor''. It is published by the Vision Group, which has its head office on First Street, in the Industrial Area of Kampala, Uganda's capital and largest city in that East African country. History It was established in its current form in 1986 by the Ugandan government. It was founded in 1955 as the ''Uganda Argus'', a British colonial government publication. Between 1962 and 1971, the first Obote government kept the name of its daily publication as ''Uganda Argus''. Following the rise to power of Idi Amin in 1971, the government paper was renamed ''Voice of Uganda''. When Amin was deposed in 1979, the second Obote government named its paper ''Uganda Times''. Berliner (format)
Berliner, or "midi", is a newspaper format with pages normally measuring about . The Berliner format is slightly taller and marginally wider than the tabloid/compact format; and is both narrower and shorter than the broadsheet format. Origin The Berliner format is an innovation in press and an alternative to the broadsheet format. The name refers to the city of Berlin, and was originally contrasted with "North German" and "French" sizes in the early 20th century. The mass media in Uganda includes print, television, radio and online sectors, and coverage is split between both state-run outlets and privately held outlets as well as English-language outlets and Luganda-language outlets. Print media in Uganda There are number of newspapers in Uganda today. The New Vision is Uganda's leading English daily newspaper. It is a state owned newspaper and has the largest nationwide circulation. The Daily Monitor is independent English language newspaper and second in circulation to The New Vision. The two papers dominate the print section of media in Uganda. Over the last decade, as Uganda's political opposition has gained strength, the Monitor newspaper has aligned itself more with the agenda of the opposition to counter the perceived government agenda fronted by the New Vision. New Vision Group
The Vision Group of Companies, commonly known as the Vision Group, is a multimedia conglomerate in Uganda. It publishes the New Vision (newspaper), an English-language daily newspaper, that appears in print form and online, as well as newspapers and magazines in a variety of Ugandan languages. History The group was established in 1986, with the flagship publication, the New Vision Newspaper. The company's first managing director was William Pike, who started the year the group launched. In 2007, a board member of the New Vision Group was allegedly poisoned. In 2009, the group apologized for publishing a corruption story on Muwenda Mutebi II of Buganda. The group launched its global mobile application (E-Paper) in 2015 but disabled it in 2019 to work on upgrading it. Robert Kabushenga
Robert Kabushenga, is a Ugandan lawyer and corporate executive who was the managing director and chief executive officer of the New Vision Group, from January 2007 until January 2021. He currently serves as a non-executive board member of KCB Bank Uganda Limited, a commercial bank, since November 2021. Background and education Kabushenga was born in Uganda circa 1971. He was raised by a single mother in Kampala, Uganda's capital city, in the 1970s and 1980s.
