The New Territories Heung Yee Kuk Yuen Long District Secondary School (abbreviated as NTHYKYLDSS) () is a Hong Kong secondary school located in Yuen Long, New Territories. Its motto is in Chinese "務本力學", meaning "conscientiousness and diligence". The official medium of instruction is English. History The foundation-laying ceremony of the school was held in 1966. The school opened in 1967, using the campus of the Yuen Long Public Secondary School until 1968, when the construction was completed. The opening ceremony was then held in 1969, with Sir David Trench as the officiator. The school council was established on the same year, with Ho Chuen Yiu as the chairman. Yuen Long is a town in the western New Territories, Hong Kong. The New Territories is one of the three main regions of Hong Kong, alongside Hong Kong Island and the Kowloon Peninsula. It makes up 86.2% of Hong Kong's territory, and contains around half of the population of Hong Kong. Historically, it is the region described in the Convention for the Extension of Hong Kong Territory. Yuen Long Public Secondary School
Yuen Long Public Secondary School is a school located in Yuen Long. In 1936, community members of Yuen Long felt that all primary school pupils in the district could not continue with secondary schooling. Seeing this, local community leaders initiated the establishment of a secondary school for the local students which led to fund-raising campaigns over a ten-year period. In 1946, the school was the first secondary school established by the Government in the New Territories. The school moved into the campus at Au Tau in 1949 and moved again in 1989 to the present modern campus in Town Park Road South, Yuen Long. The School Improvement Programme, scheduled for expansion with a total floor area of 1030 square metres, was completed in September 2003. The new annex was officially opened on 30 October 2003. Sir David Clive Crosbie Trench (; 2 June 1915 – 4 December 1988) was a British Army officer and colonial governor. Early life Trench was educated at Tonbridge School, Tonbridge, Kent and graduated from Jesus College, Cambridge with the degree of Master of Arts (M.A.). War service In 1938, Trench entered the Colonial Service as a cadet in the British Solomon Islands Protectorate and was seconded to the Western Pacific High Commission in 1941. He was also commissioned into the Royal Artillery ( Supplementary Reserve).
