New Rivers Press
New Rivers Press is an American non-profit publishing press located in Moorhead, Minnesota and affiliated with Minnesota State University Moorhead. As of 2020 they had published more than 400 books. History and mission New Rivers Press was founded by C.W. “Bill” Truesdale in 1968 out of an old barn in Massachusetts. The first title published by New Rivers Press was ''So Many Rooms Has a House But One Roof'', a poetry collection by Margaret Randall. The press moved to Minnesota in 1978, and in 1982, the press became the first book publisher to obtain 501(c)(3) Non-profit organization, nonprofit status. In 2001, when Truesdale died, the press went into suspension and later that year relocated to Minnesota State University Moorhead, where it was revived under different management with a dual mission: to publish literature by new and emerging writers, honoring Truesdale's legacy, and to provide learning opportunities for students. Charles Baxter (author)
Charles Morley Baxter (born May 13, 1947) is an American novelist, essayist, and poet. Biography Baxter was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to John and Mary Barber (Eaton) Baxter. He graduated from Macalester College in Saint Paul in 1969. In 1974 he received his PhD in English from the University at Buffalo with a thesis on Djuna Barnes, Malcolm Lowry, and Nathanael West. Baxter taught high school in Pinconning, Michigan for a year before beginning his university teaching career at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. He then moved to the University of Michigan, where for many years he directed the Creative Writing MFA program. He was a visiting professor of creative writing at the University of Iowa and at Stanford. He taught at the University of Minnesota and in the Warren Wilson College MFA Program for Writers. Warren Woessner
Warren Woessner (born 1944), poet and lawyer, studied creative writing with James McConkey and A. R. Ammons at Cornell University. He moved to Madison, Wisconsin, in 1966 and co-founded ''Abraxas Magazine'' with poet James Bertolino in 1968. He was also a founder of WORT-FM and hosted its poetry program. He received a Ph.D. in organic chemistry and a J.D. degree from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1971. Dušan Simić ( sr-cyr, Душан Симић, ; born May 9, 1938), known as Charles Simic, is a Serbian American poet and former co-poetry editor of the ''Paris Review''. He received the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1990 for ''The World Doesn't End'', and was a finalist of the Pulitzer Prize in 1986 for ''Selected Poems, 1963–1983'' and in 1987 for ''Unending Blues''. Maya Pindyck
Maya Pindyck (born 1978) is an American poet, scholar, and visual artist. She is director of writing and a professor at Moore College of Art and Design. Biography Pindyck grew up in Newton, Massachusetts, United States and Tel Aviv, Israel, attending K-12 schools in both Boston and Tel Aviv. She is Jewish, and was raised secular. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in fine arts and philosophy from Connecticut College. She has an Master of Fine Arts in poetry from Sarah Lawrence College, and a PhD in English education from Columbia University's Teacher's College. Robert Peters (playwright)
Robert Louis Peters (October 20, 1924 – June 13, 2014) was an American poet, critic, scholar, playwright, editor, and actor. He held a PhD in Victorian literature. Born in an impoverished rural area of northern Wisconsin in 1924, his poetry career began in 1967 when his young son Richard died unexpectedly of spinal meningitis. The book commemorating this loss, ''Songs for a Son'', was selected by poet Denise Levertov to be published by W. W. Norton in 1967. ''Songs for a Son'' began a flood of poetry. Greg Hewett
Greg Hewett (born 1958) is an American poet and professor. He has been awarded several fellowships and awards for his work, including the Thom Gunn Award. Biography Hewett earned his Bachelor of Arts degree at Binghamton University, his MA at the University of California–Davis, and his Doctorate of Arts at University at Albany, SUNY. Hewett teaches English and creative writing at Carleton College. He has served on the board of Quatrefoil Library. He has also lived in Japan and France.
