New Mexico State Road 247
State Road 247 (NM 247) is a state highway in the US state of New Mexico. NM 247's western terminus is at U.S. Route 54 (US 54) in Corona, and the eastern terminus is at US 285 south-southeast of Ramon. History NM 247 was created in the 1988 renumbering when NM 42 was shortened. Before 1988 it was the easternmost segment of NM 42. The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT; es, Departamento de Transporte de Nuevo México) is a state government organization which oversees transportation in New Mexico, State of New Mexico in the southwestern United States. Corona, New Mexico
Corona is a village in Lincoln County, New Mexico, United States, located along U.S. Route 54. The population was 172 at the time of the 2010 census. Description Corona is the closest populated community to a purported UFO crash in 1947, approximately to the southeast. The rancher who found the crash first came to Corona to report it to a few residents, before going to Roswell to tell officials there. In 2004, Corona was the site of a forest fire, begun when an unknown arsonist lit a pile of pine needles. Geography Corona is located at (34.250498, -105.595475). Lincoln County, New Mexico
Lincoln County is a county in the U.S. state of New Mexico. As of the 2010 census, the population was 20,497. Its county seat is Carrizozo, while its largest community is Ruidoso. History Lincoln County was named in honor of President Abraham Lincoln. It was once the largest county in the United States. In the late 1870s the Lincoln County War began between ranchers and the owners of the county's largest general store. William Bonney, better known as Billy the Kid, became involved on the side of the ranchers after his friend and employer was killed. In the end, Bonney killed the county sheriff, a deputy, and the deputy that killed his friend. Several other people were slain in the conflict, which included the other leader of the rancher faction.
