Corona is a village in Lincoln County, New Mexico, United States, located along U.S. Route 54. The population was 172 at the time of the 2010 census. Description Corona is the closest populated community to a purported UFO crash in 1947, approximately to the southeast. The rancher who found the crash first came to Corona to report it to a few residents, before going to Roswell to tell officials there. In 2004, Corona was the site of a forest fire, begun when an unknown arsonist lit a pile of pine needles. Geography Corona is located at (34.250498, -105.595475). Roswell, New Mexico
Roswell () is a city in, and the seat of, Chaves County in the U.S. state of New Mexico. Chaves County forms the entirety of the Roswell micropolitan area. As of the 2020 census it had a population of 48,422, making it the fifth-largest city in New Mexico. It is home of the New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI), founded in 1891. The city is also the location of an Eastern New Mexico University campus. Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge is located a few miles northeast of the city on the Pecos River. Bottomless Lakes State Park is located east of Roswell on US 380. The Roswell incident was named after the town, though the crash site of the alleged UFO was some from Roswell and closer to Corona. The Roswell incident was an event that occurred in 1947, pertaining to the recovery of mundane metallic and rubber debris from a military balloon that crashed near Corona, New Mexico by United States Army Air Forces officers from Roswell Army Air Field. Decades later, conspiracy theories began claiming that the debris involved a flying saucer and that the truth had been covered up by the United States government.: "Flight 4 was launched June 4, 1947, from Alamogordo Army Air Field and tracked flying northeast toward Corona.
