The New Left ( cnr, Нова љевица, Nova ljevica, NL) is a minor localist, socially liberal and nationalist political party in Montenegro formed as a local citizens' movement in May 2018 prior to the 2018 Podgorica City Assembly election by Saša Mijović, Montenegrin drug abuse interventionist, NGO activist and the former member of the Young Liberals of Montenegro, youth-branch of the minor DPS-affiliated Montenegrin nationalist Liberal Party of Montenegro. History The New Left party was formed in December 2018 from the Podgorica local citizens' movement gathered around civic activist Saša Mijović. It was part of the 2019 Montenegrin anti-corruption protests. 2019 Montenegrin Anti-corruption Protests
In February 2019, protests began in Montenegro against President Milo Đukanović, Prime Minister Duško Marković, and the government led by the ruling Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), which has been in power since the introduction of multi-party system in 1990. The anti-government protests have been organized by the civil sector of the Montenegrin society, concurrently with the protests in the neighboring Serbia, that had similar goals. The protests failed in mid-2019. Involved in corruption affairs within the government and the ruling DPS remain in their offices. Mihailo Dedeić ( cyrl, Михаило Дедеић; born 8 November 1938) commonly referred to by his birth name Miraš Dedeić ( cyrl, Мираш Дедеић), is the second and current head of the non-canonical Montenegrin Orthodox Church. Since 6 January 1997, he has been styled as ''His Beatitude the Archbishop of Cetinje and Metropolitan of Montenegro''. Biography He was born in 1938 in the village of Ramovo Ždrijelo on Durmitor. He graduated from the Faculty of Theology in Belgrade in 1969. He completed his postgraduate studies at the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome in 1973 and later attended postgraduate studies at the Russian Theological Academy of St. Sergius in Zagorsk. 2021 Montenegrin Episcopal Enthronement Protests
A series of violent protests against the enthronement of Joanikije II, Metropolitan of Montenegro, Joanikije Mićović of the Serbian Orthodox Church as the Metropolitanate of Montenegro and the Littoral, Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral took place at the historic Cetinje Monastery in September 2021. Cetinje
Cetinje (, ) is a town in Montenegro. It is the former royal capital (''prijestonica'' / приjестоница) of Montenegro and is the location of several national institutions, including the official residence of the president of Montenegro. According to the 2011 census, the town had a population of 14,093 while the Cetinje Municipality had 16,657 residents . Cetinje is the centre of Cetinje Municipality. 2020 Montenegrin Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Montenegro on 30 August 2020. They were the fifth parliamentary in Montenegro since gaining its independence in 2006. Eighty-one members of the  Montenegrin parliament were elected. Elections were organized in special conditions, due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Montenegro. The parliamentary election was also held simultaneously with the local elections in five municipalities. The period before the election was marked by the high polarization of the electorate. DEMOS (acronym of Demokratski savez, ; cnr, Демократски савез, ДЕМОС) is a centrist to centre-right political party in Montenegro. Party founder and current leader is Miodrag Lekić, who is also serving as the party's single MP in the Parliament of Montenegro.
