New Formosa Band
New Formosa Band () is a Taiwanese pop music ensemble. Its members include Bobby Chen and Ayugo Huang. The group was established in 1992 and are important musicians in the genres of Hakka and New Taiwanese Song. They released several albums in the 1990s which blended traditional Taiwanese folk music with pop elements. New Taiwanese Song
New Taiwanese Song is a genre of Taiwanese popular music. It was first used to describe pop songs, often dealing with political themes or social criticism, that followed the History of Taiwan#Democratic_reforms, upheavals of 1989. ''Songs of Madness'' by Blacklist Studio was one of the first and most prominent releases in this genre. Chen Ming-chang, Lim Giong, and New Formosa Band are other major musicians in this realm. Bobby Chen
Bobby Chen (; born 29 October 1958) is a Taiwanese singer and record producer. Career Chen was born in Xizhou, Changhua County in Taiwan. In elementary school, he was the only boy who took part in a singing competition and represented the entire school choir. When he was younger, he had wanted to be a painter. His interest in making music sparked much later in life. After he graduated, Chen moved to Taipei. There he engaged in multiple jobs like car repairing, elevator maintenance, art design and much more. He tried to enter Zhong Yi recording company (綜一唱片) three times. He finally got into the company after he changed his name. Chen began behind-the-scene production in the year of 1982. He work as Liu Chia-chang's assistant. After a few years, he decided to compose his own music. He finally made an entrance to Rolling Stone Records with the help of Xu Chongxian (徐崇憲), the owner of Li Feng Studios (麗風錄音室). The Hakka (), sometimes also referred to as Hakka Han, or Hakka Chinese, or Hakkas are a Han Chinese subgroup whose ancestral homes are chiefly in the Hakka-speaking provincial areas of Guangdong, Fujian, Jiangxi, Guangxi, Sichuan, Hunan, Zhejiang, Hainan, Guizhou in China, as well as in Taoyuan City, Hsinchu County, Miaoli County, Pingtung County, and Kaohsiung City in Taiwan. Enka
is a Japanese music genre considered to resemble traditional Japanese music stylistically. Modern ''enka'', however, is a relatively recent musical form, which adopts a more traditional musical style in its vocalism than ''ryūkōka'' music, popular during the prewar years. Modern ''enka'', as developed in the postwar era, is a form of sentimental ballad music. Some of the first modern ''enka'' singers were Hachiro Kasuga, Michiya Mihashi, and Hideo Murata.
