New Caledonia Rugby Committee
The New Caledonia Rugby Committee ( French: ''Comité de Rugby de Nouvelle Calédonie'', —or officially: ''Comité Régional de Rugby de Nouvelle Calédonie'') is a committee under the umbrella of the French Rugby Federation which is the governing body for rugby union within New Caledonia. It is a full member of the Oceania Rugby, which is the governing body for rugby union in Oceania, but it is not affiliated with the International Rugby Board (IRB) in its own right. National teams The New Caledonia 15-a-side team has competed at the South Pacific Games, winning a silver medal in 1966 and two gold medals in 1987 and 1995. More recently, the team has played for the FORU Oceania Cup. New Caledonia fields teams in 7's competitions as well as 15's. Rugby Union At The Pacific Games
Rugby union at the Pacific Games has been contested since 1963 when included as one of ten sports at the first games held in Suva, Fiji. Rugby sevens is the form of rugby now played at the Pacific Games, with men's and women's tournaments (for 7-a-side teams) included in the current schedule. The women's competition was added for the first time at the 2011 Pacific Games held in Nouméa. Prior to the late 1990s the men's tournament at the South Pacific Games, as it was then known, was contested by national rugby union teams (i.e. 15-a-side). The shorter tournament structure of rugby sevens being better suited to multi-sports events led to the change of format. The Oceania Rugby Men's Championship (formerly known as the Oceania Cup) is an international rugby union competition for countries and territories from Oceania with national teams in the developmental band. It is administered by Oceania Rugby. The tournament has been played under various formats depending on the number and strength of the teams entered. The first competition was held in 1996-97 as part of the qualification process for the 1999 Rugby World Cup. The competition was officially re-launched as the FORU Oceania Cup for the 2007 season. The Pacific Games (French: Jeux du Pacifique), is a continental multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from Oceania. The inaugural Games took place in 1963 in Suva, Fiji, and most recently in 2019 in Apia, Samoa. The Games were called the South Pacific Games from 1963 to 2007. The Pacific Games Council (PGC) organises the Games and oversees the host city's preparations. Athletes with a disability are included as full members of their national teams.
