Hatfield Point is a settlement on the Belleisle Bay in Kings County, New Brunswick. History Hatfield Point is located at the head of the Belleisle Bay, called "Pascobac" ("Side Bay") by the Maliseet, who hunted and fished in the area. European settlement began in 1783 with the arrival of Captain Thomas Spragg, a United Empire Loyalist militia officer from Hempstead, Long Island. Spragg and his adult sons were granted large tracts on the north side of the Bay, soon dubbed "Spragg's Point". The first settlers were largely Loyalists from New York, with subsequent immigration directly from Britain and Ireland. Originally, most belonged to the established Church of England. However, the early 1800s brought a religious shift as the Anglican Church moved to Springfield. Founded in 1806, the "First Springfield Calvinist Baptist Church", now "Hatfield Point Baptist Church", became the mother church of several Baptist chapels around the Belleisle. New Brunswick Route 10
Route 10 is 144 kilometres long and runs from Fredericton to Sussex. The road goes northeast from the Fredericton suburb of Barker's Point to the village of Minto, then loops around Grand Lake through Chipman to Youngs Cove. Until 2001 this was the end of the highway, but with the opening of a new 4-laned section of the Trans-Canada Highway ( Route 2), it now follows the old alignment of that highway from Youngs Cove to a junction with Route 1 in Sussex. While passing through Minto, Route 10 forms Pleasant Drive, and in Chipman, it forms parts of Bridge Street and Main Street. History The original routing of Route 10 looped around Grand Lake from Sheffield through Minto, Chipman and Youngs Cove, then met the former main Fredericton-Moncton road (then known as Route 9) near Codys.
