New Alliance (Italy)
New Alliance (''Nuova Alleanza'') was a liberal-conservative faction within National Alliance, a political party in Italy. The faction was founded in December 2001 by Altero Matteoli, Cristiana Muscardini, Adolfo Urso and Domenico Nania, who were at the time the staunchest supporters of the leadership of Gianfranco Fini. New Alliance, which was the result of the merger of Right and Freedom (Matteoli, Urso) with Plural Right (Nania), was an early supporter of the party's entry into the European People's Party and represented the most vocal wing of the party in favour of economic liberalism. In the 2002 party congress New Alliance was represented by the 25-30% of delegates. Within The People of Freedom, the broad centre-right party into which National Alliance was merged in 2009, Matteoli launched Foundation of Freedom, distancing from Fini, while Urso became one of the most staunchest supporters of Fini's Generation Italy and the secretary-general of '' FareFuturo''. When Fini an ...

Liberal Conservatism
Liberal conservatism is a political ideology combining conservative policies with liberal stances, especially on economic issues but also on social and ethical matters, representing a brand of political conservatism strongly influenced by liberalism. The ideology incorporates the classical liberal view of minimal government intervention in the economy, according to which individuals should be free to participate in the market and generate wealth without government interference. However, liberal conservatives also hold that individuals cannot be thoroughly depended on to act responsibly in other spheres of life; therefore, they believe that a strong state is necessary to ensure law and order and that social institutions are needed to nurture a sense of duty and responsibility to the nation. Liberal conservatives also support civil liberties, along with some socially conservative positions. Nevertheless, liberal conservatism differs from social conservatism in a sense that it d ...

Plural Right
The plural (sometimes abbreviated pl., pl, or ), in many languages, is one of the values of the grammatical category of number. The plural of a noun typically denotes a quantity greater than the default quantity represented by that noun. This default quantity is most commonly one (a form that represents this default quantity of one is said to be of ''singular'' number). Therefore, plurals most typically denote two or more of something, although they may also denote fractional, zero or negative amounts. An example of a plural is the English word ''cats'', which corresponds to the singular ''cat''. Words of other types, such as verbs, adjectives and pronouns, also frequently have distinct plural forms, which are used in agreement with the number of their associated nouns. Some languages also have a dual (denoting exactly two of something) or other systems of number categories. However, in English and many other languages, singular and plural are the only grammatical numbers, exce ...

Generation Italy
Generation Italy (''Generazione Italia'', GI) or ''Finiani'' was an association connected to Future and Freedom (FLI), a political party in Italy, and earlier to The People of Freedom (PdL). Although most of its members came from the conservative National Alliance (AN) and were earlier members of the Italian Social Movement (MSI), GI was a social liberal wing within the PdL. The faction's members identified themselves as close supporters of Gianfranco Fini, former leader of MSI/AN and frequent critic of Silvio Berlusconi from his post of President of the Chamber of Deputies. During the years, the former post-fascist leader had taken controversial stances on stem cell research, end of life issues, advance health care directive and immigration. Fini was also an outspoken supporter of the principle of separation of church and state and of a more structured party organisation. Although most ''Finiani'', such as Bocchino, Adolfo Urso, Fabio Granata, Carmelo Briguglio, Flavia Peri ...

Foundation Of Freedom
Foundation of Freedom (''Fondazione della Libertà'') was a liberal-conservative think tank connected to The People of Freedom, a political party in Italy. Founded in 2010 by Altero Matteoli, it can be seen as a continuation of New Alliance, a major faction within National Alliance (merged into PdL in 2009), through the PdL. However, while New Alliance represented the wing of National Alliance closer to the leader Gianfranco Fini, Matteoli and his group distanced from Fini, after that he started to criticize Silvio Berlusconi, and are now much more closer to the latter. Foundation of Freedom is thus a keen supporter of Berlusconi's leadership and opposes the moves of Generation Italy, the minority faction around Fini. In this respect the faction collaborates with the two other main groups coming from National Alliance which are loyal to Berlusconi, Protagonist Italy (leaders: Maurizio Gasparri, Ignazio La Russa) and New Italy (leader: Gianni Alemanno), along with some minor gro ...

Economic Liberalism
Economic liberalism is a political and economic ideology that supports a market economy based on individualism and private property in the means of production. Adam Smith is considered one of the primary initial writers on economic liberalism, and his writing is generally regarded as representing the economic expression of 19th-century liberalism up until the Great Depression and rise of Keynesianism in the 20th century. Historically, economic liberalism arose in response to feudalism and mercantilism. Economic liberalism is associated with markets and private ownership of capital assets. Economic liberals tend to oppose government intervention and protectionism in the market economy when it inhibits free trade and competition, but tend to support government intervention where it protects property rights, opens new markets or funds market growth, and resolves market failures. An economy that is managed according to these precepts may be described as a liberal economy or oper ...
