It is known as Gold Point Road, connecting the town of Gold Point, Nevada, Gold Point to Nevada State Route 266, State Route 266. The route was originally part of former State Route 71. Route description The highway begins at Third Street in the middle of Gold Point. From there, the route heads northeast to its terminus approximately east of Lida, Nevada, Lida on State Route 266. History Gold Point Road first shows up on state highway maps in 1942 as State Route 71, an unimproved highway. The alignment followed that of the present-day SR 774 and extended further southwest of Gold Point to the California state line. With no major road or town connection beyond Gold Point into California, the southern end of SR 71 was truncated to Gold Point by 1968. Gold Point, Nevada
Gold Point, Nevada is a well-preserved historic mining town in Esmeralda County, Nevada. The community was named after the local gold-mining industry. Gold Point is the southern terminus of Nevada State Route 774. Its current population is about seven. History The area that would become Gold Point was first settled by ranchers and a few miners during the 1880s. The small camp of Lime Point was formed a few hundred yards west of the present town, at an outcropping of limestone. When new discoveries of gold and silver established the major mining towns of Tonopah, Nevada, Tonopah and Goldfield, Nevada in the early 1900s, a flood of prospectors returned to Lime Point. In 1902, silver was discovered in the area, and the old camp was revived and renamed Hornsilver (an informal name for the silver mineral chlorargyrite). State Route 266 (SR 266) is a state highway in Esmeralda County, Nevada, United States. It connects the routing of California State Route 266 east to U.S. Route 95 (US 95) via the town of Lida. Lida Road previously carried the southern end of State Route 3. Route description State Route 266 begins at the California state line about east of Oasis, California. From there, the highway makes its way east through the mountainous terrain and the Lida Summit (elevation ) to the community of Lida.
