Nev Callaghan
Neville Alan Callaghan (17 February 1936 – 3 December 2016) was an Australian rugby league player, who played one representative game for Queensland rugby league team, Queensland in 1959. Rugby league Born in Rockhampton, Callaghan became interested in rugby league as a primary school student when Cyril Connell Jnr. took up a teaching position at Allenstown, Queensland, Allenstown State School in 1947. After playing the sport at school, Callaghan rose through the junior rugby league grades through the 1950s while playing for local clubs Colts and then Fitzroys. He was acknowledged as being Fitzroys' most improved junior player in 1954. Central Queensland Rugby League Team
Central Queensland Capras are a semi-professional rugby league football club primarily based in Rockhampton, Queensland and representing Central Queensland. They currently play in the Queensland Cup, the premier rugby league competition in Queensland. From 2023, they will serve as one of the feeder clubs for the Dolphins (NRL), Dolphins. The club was founded in 1996 under the name Central Capras; in 2000 the name was changed to the Central Comets and, in 2011, it was reverted to the Central Queensland Capras. History In the 1980s the Central Queensland Capras had entered a team in the Queensland Winfield State League Competition. Their colours at that time were sky blue and maroon. Elton Rasmussen
Elton Rasmussen (1936–1978) was an Australian professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1950s and 1960s. He was a with the St. George Dragons during the second-half of their 11-year consecutive premiership winning run from 1956 to 1966. He was a representative in the Australian national team from 1959 to 1962 and from 1967 to 1968. Career Rasmussen was playing for Toowoomba when first selected for Queensland in 1959. That year he played in the Queensland victory over New South Wales that attracted 35,261 spectators, smashing Brisbane's previous record for an interstate match of 22,817. He was then picked on the 1959-60 Kangaroo tour and made his Test debut in that Ashes series against Great Britain. He played in two Tests and fifteen minor matches on tour. Browne Park
Browne Park is a rectangular football stadium located in the Rockhampton suburb of Wandal, Queensland, Australia. The venue has been the home of rugby football in Central Queensland since 1890 and today also hosts rugby union and soccer matches. It hosted a match of the 2008 Rugby League World Cup. The ground was named Browne Park in 1958 as a posthumous honour to long serving president of Rockhampton Rugby League, Jack Browne who died in office. Jim Paterson (rugby League)
Jim Paterson (born 1934 in Townsville, Queensland) is an Australian former rugby league footballer who played in the 1950s and 1960s. An Australian international and Queensland interstate representative forward, he played club football throughout the state of Queensland during his career. He retired with the record for most games for North Queensland, having captained the side to victories over Great Britain and France. Biography Paterson was born in Townsville in 1934. He attended South Townsville State School and became a South Townsville rugby league club junior. Playing career Paterson made his first appearance for the South Townsville club's senior team in 1953. He represented Townsville in the Foley Shield competition. Henry Holloway (rugby League)
Henry Holloway (1931–1999) was an Australian rugby league footballer and coach. A national representative forward, he played club football in New South Wales and Queensland and represented both states. Holloway later coached in Brisbane. Career Holloway served in Japan in 1950 with the RAAF. At the end of the 1954 NSWRFL season, Holloway's first with Newtown, he played at second-row forward in their loss to South Sydney in the grand final. During the following season, Holloway was selected to represent Australia against the touring French team, becoming Kangaroo No. 315. At the end of the 1955 NSWRFL season he again played at second-row forward in the grand final which Newtown lost to Souths by one point. Holloway then moved north, as captain/coach for Waratah Mayfield Cheetahs in the Newcastle Rugby League in 1958 and joining the Brisbane Rugby League's Souths club. Dud Beattie
Dud Beattie (27 April 1934 – 19 April 2016) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1950s and 1960s. An Australian international and Queensland representative prop forward, he played in Ipswich, Queensland for the Railways club. Career Beattie along with Noel Kelly and Gary Parcell, helped Ipswich dominate the Bulimba Cup and all three were selected for the Australian national side's front row. In 1959 he played in the Queensland victory over New South Wales that attracted 35,261 spectators, smashing Brisbane's previous record for an interstate match of 22,817. Also that year Beattie was selected to make his international debut for Australia, becoming Kangaroo No. 338. He went on the 1959-60 Kangaroo tour of Great Britain and France, represented Australia at the 1960 World Cup, and went on the 1961 tour of New Zealand. Paul Pyers
Paul Francis "Pope" Pyers (13 March 1935 – 12 June 2016) was an Australian rugby league player in both the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) competition and in Queensland. A versatile performer, he played in every position from fullback to lock forward. Pyers was born in South Grafton, New South Wales, and played for the South Grafton rugby league team 1950–53. In 1954, he played with Sydney's Eastern Suburbs side. He is recognized as that club's 421st player. The following year Pyers moved to Queensland where he represented the Queensland state team 11 times 1957–59 in matches against NSW, New Zealand, and Great Britain. In 1959, while playing in Mackay, Queensland, he represented Queensland in all four of its games against New South Wales; Queensland, winning the series 3–1. Barry Muir
Barry Muir (18 September 1937 – 2 September 2022) was an Australian professional rugby league footballer and coach. An Australian and Queensland representative , he played in twenty-two Tests between 1959 and 1964, as captain on two occasions. Club career Born in Tweed Heads, New South Wales, Muir played his junior rugby league at Coolangatta State School and represented Queensland Schoolboys in 1951. He was graded with the Tweeds Heads Seagulls and made his first grade debut in 1956. He played a season in 1957 with Valleys in Toowoomba before joining Western Suburbs in 1958 in the Brisbane domestic competition. He stayed with the club for eleven seasons. Bob Banks
Bob Banks (born 1930) is an Australian former rugby league footballer, a Queensland state and national representative five-eighth, who made fourteen Test and nineteen other tour match appearances for the Australian national team between 1953 and 1962. He represented his adopted state of Queensland on twenty-six occasions during his career. Early life Banks was born in Tumut, New South Wales but in his childhood, he had relocated to the Newcastle area, from where his family originated, attending Hamilton Primary and Central High School, Newcastle where he represented in rugby league.
