Heinz Neukirchen
Heinz Neukirchen (13 January 1915 – 8 December 1986) was an officer of the Kriegsmarine in World War II, and a ''Vizeadmiral'' in the People's Navy (Volksmarine) of the German Democratic Republic as well as President of the East German Directorate of Maritime and Port Industries. He was the author of several maritime books. Neukirchen was born in Duisburg, Germany, the son of a small farmer and vegetable dealer. After graduation from high school he worked an internship from 1931 to 1932, then one year as a freelancer for the Düsseldorfer News. Neukirchen began service in Nazi Germany's ''Kriegsmarine'' in 1935. As a crewmember of the German cruiser Köln Neukirchen served in the Spanish Civil War and received the Spanish Cross. From 1939 to 1940, holding the rank of a boatswain, he was a harbor protection commander. Neukirchen is a small town in the Schwalm-Eder-Kreis, Schwalm-Eder district in Hesse, Germany. Constituent communities The town is made up of a main town bearing the same name as the whole town, and the centres of Asterode, Christerode, Hauptschwenda, Nausis, Wincherode, RiebelsdorfRückershausenand Seigertshausen. History Neukirchen had its first documentary mention in 1142 in a document from the Bad Hersfeld, Hersfeld monastery. In 1351, Neukirchen was granted town rights. In the Middle Ages, the town was bedevilled by fires that repeatedly broke out. One catastrophe in 1533 destroyed three fourths of all the town's houses. Erding
Erding () is a town in Bavaria, Germany, and capital of the rural district of the same name. It had a population of 36,469 in 2019. The original Erdinger Weissbier is a well-known Bavarian specialty. Erding is located around 31 kilometers northeast of central Munich, about a 30-minute drive by car. Regular S-Bahn trains connect to Munich and beyond. History Evidence of prehistoric hunter/gatherers in the Erding area dates to c. 6000 BC, findings including an axe made of deer antler. Excavations of two dwellings of at least 6.5 metres in length near Altenerding from c. 2500 BC provide the first evidence of permanent agricultural based inhabitants, while some twenty early Bronze Age graveyards from c. 1800 BC have been found in Langenpreising. Erding was founded in 1228–1230, developing as a township on an alternative route from Landshut to Munich. Erding became known as a border town, midway between the two rival cities.
