Netherlands National Bandy Team
The Dutch national bandy team represents the Netherlands in the sport of bandy. The team made its international championship debut at the 1913 European Bandy Championships in Davos, Switzerland. However, the Netherlands did not compete in the Bandy World Championship before the 1990s, even if bandy actually has been played more or less regularly in the Netherlands since the early 20th Century. The Netherlands participated in their first World Championship tournament in 1991 and has been attending the tournaments regularly since the 2003 championship. By the 1991 World Championship the team had the traditional Dutch orange jerseys, but before that the colours of the flag. Bandy Bond Nederland
Bandy Bond Nederlands is the governing body for bandy in the Netherlands and is controlling the Netherlands national bandy team. Bandy was introduced to the Netherlands by Pim Mulier in 1891 and the Nederlandsche Hockey en Bandy Bond, organising field hockey and bandy, was founded on 8 October 1898. In the 1920s and 1930s ice hockey increasingly became a tough competitor to bandy. The federation eventually let go of bandy and was renamed the Nederlandse Hockey Bond in 1935. However, bandy was still played by som clubs during the 1950s and 1960s. Sometimes it was played as rink bandy. By 1971 the new ''Nederlandse Bandy Federatie'' was founded. It became a member of the Federation of International Bandy in 1973 (or the International Bandy Federation, as it was known at the time), as the first non-founding member. The Davos Cup was a bandy tournament held in 2016 for national teams from continental Europe. History In January 2016 the Federation of International Bandy together with the Federation of Swiss Bandy arranged a tournament in Davos. Due to recent weather conditions and in line with what had been done at the 1913 European Bandy Championships, the games were not played with modern 11 man teams but on a smaller bandy field with 7 men on each team and without corners. Germany national bandy team (german: Deutsche Bandynationalmannschaft der Herren) is a bandy team competing for Germany in the international bandy and rink bandy tournaments. The German Empire national bandy team participated the 1913 European Bandy Championships in Davos. After a long time with no organised bandy in Germany, the German Bandy Federation (Deutscher Bandy-Bund) was established in June 2013 and the new national bandy team was formed in September 2013. In January 2014 the German team participated in the four nation bandy tournament in Davos, Switzerland, a centenary celebration of the 1913 European Championship. Hungary national bandy team is competing for Hungary in the international bandy tournaments. History Austria-Hungary national bandy team participated in the 1913 European Bandy Championships but it is uncertain if there were any Hungarian players. Hungary national bandy team made its international debut in the Rossiya Tournament 1990 in Novosibirsk, Soviet Union. Czech Republic national bandy team is competing for the Czech Republic in the international bandy and rink bandy tournaments. It is run by the Czech Association of Bandy. History Bohemia, then a part of Austria-Hungary, was in its own right an early member of the Ligue International de Hockey sur Glace, which administrated ice hockey and bandy in the years before the First World War. Austria-Hungary national bandy team participated in the 1913 European Bandy Championships. The Czech Association of Bandy was founded in 2013 and became a member of the Federation of International Bandy in 2014. The Bandy World Championship is a competition between bandy-playing nations' men's teams. The tournament is administrated by the Federation of International Bandy. It is distinct from the Bandy World Cup, a club competition, and from the Women's Bandy World Championship. A Youth Bandy World Championship also exists separately from the senior competition and has competitions in both the male and female categories. The 2020 Bandy World Championship for Division A was scheduled to be played in Irkutsk, Russia in 2020 but was postponed twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 2003 Bandy World Championship
The 2003 Bandy World Championship was a competition between bandy playing nations for men. The championship was played in Arkhangelsk, Russia from the 24–30 March 2003. Sweden won the championship. There were 9 countries participating in the 2003 championships: Finland, Kazakhstan, Norway, Russia, Sweden (group A) and Belarus, Estonia, the Netherlands and the United States (group B). The competition was originally intended to be played in Norway. However, on 7 January 2002, the Bandy Association of Norway met and decided to not host the competition. Both Russia and Sweden showed their interests to host. The decision fell on Russia. By playing the tournament in late March, severe cold was avoided, unlike the 1999 World Championship when the tournament was played in late January and early February.
