Netherlands In The Eurovision Song Contest 2016
The Netherlands participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 with the song "Slow Down" written by Douwe Bob, Jan Peter Hoekstra, Jeroen Overman and Matthijs van Duijvenbode. The song was performed by Douwe Bob, who was internally selected by the Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS to represent the Netherlands at the 2016 contest in Stockholm, Sweden. Douwe Bob's appointment as the Dutch representative was announced on 22 September 2015, while the song, "Slow Down", was presented to the public on 4 March 2016. The Netherlands was drawn to compete in the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest which took place on 10 May 2016. Performing during the show in position 6, "Slow Down" was announced among the top 10 entries of the first semi-final and therefore qualified to compete in the final on 14 May. Douwe Bob
Douwe Bob Posthuma (born 12 December 1992), professionally known by only his first and middle names Douwe Bob, is a Dutch singer-songwriter. He won the Dutch talent show ''De beste singer-songwriter van Nederland''. He specializes in folk and country music and has released four albums. He represented the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016. Early life Douwe Bob Posthuma was born on 12 December 1992 in Amsterdam in the Netherlands. He was born into a Frisian family. His father, Simon Posthuma, is known for being a member of The Fool design collective. Douwe Bob started playing piano at the age of 6, initially concentrating on classical music and jazz. The Eurovision Song Contest 2011 was the 56th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Düsseldorf, Germany, following the country's victory at the with the song "Satellite" by Lena. Iris Kroes (born 11 November 1992 in Drachten) is a Dutch singer-songwriter and harpist (She was called ''Harpmeisje'' (Dutch for ''Harp Girl'')). She was the winner of the second season of the television program ''The Voice of Holland'' on January 20, 2012, making her the second female contestant worldwide to win the show after Steliyana Khristova, who won the Bulgarian version of the show. ''The Voice of Holland'', also known as ''TVOH'', is a Dutch reality TV singing competition, that became a near global TV format franchise, created by media tycoon John de Mol and musician Roel van Velzen, in the Netherlands airing on RTL 4. For the first nine seasons, The Voice of Holland was hosted by Martijn Krabbé and Wendy van Dijk. Starting from the tenth season (2019–2020), Wendy van Dijk was replaced by Chantal Janzen. Dotan Harpenau (born 26 October 1986), better known by his stage name Dotan, is a Dutch-Israeli singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer. Judith Katrijntje "Trijntje" Oosterhuis (; born 5 February 1973) is a Dutch singer and songwriter. She formed the band Total Touch in 1990 with her brother Tjeerd Oosterhuis before she started as a solo singer. The Common Linnets
The Common Linnets are a Dutch band that was formed in 2013. The band originally consisted of friends Ilse DeLange and Waylon. DeLange has stated that the group is a platform for Dutch artists to make country, Americana, and bluegrass music, and that the members will be changing. In May 2014, Waylon left the group and was replaced by American country singer Jake Etheridge. Their song "Calm After the Storm", which is on their self-titled debut album, reached second place in the final of the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest and gave the Netherlands their best result since their last winning entry in 1975. The song became a hit throughout Europe. Name Ilse de Lange and Waylon are both from the eastern part of the Netherlands.
