Nepal Engineering Council
Nepal Engineering Council is an autonomous government body formed on 11 March 1999 under The Nepal Engineering Council Act. The council was established in order to mobilize the engineering profession in a systematic and scientific manner by making it effective, as well as to make provision for, among other matters, the registration of the names of engineers as per their qualifications. The council used to register engineers based on academic certificates until 2022. An amendment bill was registered in the parliament in June 2019 and was passed in August 2022 which makes mandatory to take exams from the council to get license. As of 2022, there are 37 engineering field for which license are issued. The Government of Nepal ( ne, नेपाल सरकार) is the federal executive authority of Nepal. Prior to the abolition of the Nepali monarchy in 2006 (became republic in 2008), it was officially known as His Majesty's Government. Nepal Engineers' Association (NEA) (Nepali:नेपाल ईन्जिनियर्स एसोसियसन) is an independent non-profit organization of engineers of Nepal. Its headquarters is located in Pulchowk, Lalitpur. It was established in 1962. It has the provincial committee in each province of Nepal. The Institute of Engineering (IOE) ( Nepali: ईन्जिनियरिङ अध्ययन संस्थान), established in 1930, is the first technical school of Nepal. It was reformed in the present shape in 1972 as an organ of Tribhuvan University. IOE runs professional diplomas, undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph.D. programs. Tribhuvan University (TU; ne, त्रिभुवन विश्वविद्यालय) is a public university located in Kirtipur, Kathmandu. Established in 1959, TU is the oldest university in Nepal. Nepal Bar Council is an independent legal institution established by the Nepal Bar Council Act, 1993 with a major objective to regulate law practice in Nepal. It conducts examination for issuing the licence for law practice and keeps record of the law practitioners. The Nepal Medical Council (NMC) is a statutory body regulating medical education and registration of doctors in Nepal. NMC was established in 1964 under Nepal Medical Council Act 1964. The educational system in Nepal was long based on home-schooling and ''gurukulas''. This was similar to the former Indian system of education, in which the pupils would learn either in their homes or with reputed priests or Gurus. Before Nepal was declared a democratic country, the general public had no access to formal education. The first formal school, Durbar High School, established by Jung Bahadur Rana in 1853, was intended for the elite. The birth of Nepalese democracy in 1951 opened its classrooms to a more diverse population.
