Nekojiru
, known by the pen name , was a Japanese manga artist. In 1990, she debuted in the June issue of the monthly manga anthology ''Garo'' with '' Nekojiru Udon'', which is now considered her definitive work. Early life Hashiguchi was born on January 19, 1967, to a wealthy family in Kawaguchi, Saitama Prefecture. Her first spoken word was reportedly "idiot." Her schooling is unknown but editor Yoshiaki Yoshinaga states Hashiguchi attended a beauty school near her hometown. As a student she religiously followed new wave musicians such as EP-4 and TACO. At 18, she would marry alternative manga artist Hajime Yamano, assisting his work by shading in scenes. At that time, Nekojiru reportedly had no interest in becoming a mangaka herself. The surreal humour, surreal film follows Nyata, an anthropomorphic kitten, on his travel to the underworld, land of the dead and back in an effort to save his sister's soul. ''Cat Soup'' was released OVA, direct-to-DVD in Japan on 21 February 2001. Central Park Media licensed the film in North America under its Software Sculptors label and was released on DVD on September 9, 2003. Plot Nyaako, the older sister of Nyata, lies very ill in her room. By accident, Nyata drowns in the bathtub and, whilst being clinically dead, sees his sister leaving the house holding hands with the psychopomp Kṣitigarbha, Jizō and follows them. Garo (magazine)
was a monthly manga anthology magazine in Japan, founded by Katsuichi Nagai and published by Seirindō from 1964 until 2002. It was fundamental for the emergence and development of alternative and avant-garde manga. History Katsuichi Nagai founded ''Garo'' in July 1964 in order to publish the work of ''gekiga'' artists who didn't want to work for mainstream manga magazines after the demise of the rental book industry ( ''kashihon''). The magazine offered artists artistic freedom, but didn't pay them any salaries. Nagai particularly wanted to promote Marxist ''gekiga'' artist Sanpei Shirato's work, naming the magazine after one of Shirato's ninja characters. The first series published in ''Garo'' was Shirato's drama '' Kamui'' explored themes of class struggle and anti-authoritarianism around a Burakumin ninja boy with an Ainu name. Hide (musician)
, known professionally as hide, was a Japanese musician, singer-songwriter and record producer. He achieved international fame as the lead guitarist of the rock band X Japan from 1987 to 1997 and a solo artist from 1993 onward. He also formed the United States-based rock supergroup Zilch in 1996. Hide sold millions of records, both solo and as a member of X Japan. X Japan rose to prominence in the late 1980s and early 1990s, credited as founders of the Japanese visual kei movement. When they disbanded in 1997, he focused on his solo career which started four years prior and went on to enjoy significant popularity. At the height of his fame, while recording his third studio album and about to launch an international career with the newly formed Zilch, he died in 1998 of what was ruled a suicide by hanging. Manjū
is a traditional Japanese confection. Of the many varieties of manjū, most have an outside made from flour, rice powder, kudzu, and buckwheat, and a filling of ''anko'' ( red bean paste), usually made from boiled adzuki beans and sugar.
