Nekka-Nacht
Nekka-Nacht (Eng. Nekka-Night) is an annual event organized in Antwerp, Belgium. Traditionally, it celebrates the career of a Dutch-language artist from Flanders or the Netherlands. History The first edition dates from 1969. Until 1970, the event was called Kazuno''.'' From 1971 it was organized as Nekka. Back then, other-language artists also performed, and it was rather known as a folk-festival. The first Nekka-Nacht editions in 1994 and 1995 didn't have one specific main guest yet. Since 1996, different artists perform the songs of one main singer or band. In 2013, a compilation album ''20 Jaar Nekka Nacht'' was released. Kommil Foo
Kommil Foo is a Flemish cabaret duo, existing of two brothers Raf (b. 2 October 1965) and Mich Walschaerts (b. 10 March 1969). Career In 1987, the duo gave their first performance in a Ghent student club. They performed their first real show Ballade in 1988. Between 1988 and 1992, the brothers wrote three musical theatre programs. In late 1992, the duo's fourth program ''Plank'' was awarded in Rotterdam. The jury spoke of a "perfect duo with a great future". ''Plank'' marked the duo's breakthrough and was performed over 250 times in Flanders and the Netherlands. TV presenter Mark Uytterhoeven saw one of their shows, and invited them weekly in his television show ''Morgen Maandag'' in 1993. From then, the duo became known to the big audience in Flanders. In 1998, they performed their anniversary show ''10 years of Kommil Foo: the very best'' with an extended orchestra, and in 2002 the 15-year anniversary was celebrated at the Sportpaleis in Antwerp. Zjef Vanuytsel
Jozef Guillaume Dymphna "Zjef" Vanuytsel (July 6, 1945 – December 30, 2015) was a Belgian folk music/kleinkunst singer and guitarist. He is seen as one of the Big Three of Flemish kleinkunst, along with Wannes Van de Velde and Willem Vermandere. Vanuytsel is most famous for his debut album, "De Zotte Morgen" ("The Mad Morning"), which became a bestseller and sold more than 100.000 copies. The title track "De Zotte Morgen" and the single "Houten Kop" ("Hangover", literally "Wooden Head") from the same album are his most well known songs. Apart from being a musician Vanuytsel was also an architect. Biography Vanuytsel was born in Mol, Belgium. The Antwerps Sportpaleis ( eng, Antwerp's Sport Palace), also called Sportpaleis Antwerpen, Sportpaleis Merksem or simply the Sportpaleis, is an arena in Antwerp, Belgium. It is a multipurpose hall where concerts, sporting events, festivals and fairs are organized. The arena was built for sport, especially track cycling, but there is now little sport there, an exception being the Diamond Games tennis. According to Billboard Magazine, for the period 2007/8 Sportpaleis was the second most visited event hall in the world, second only to Madison Square Garden. The Sportpaleis is known for performances by both Dutch-speaking and international artists. De Kreuners
De Kreuners are a Flemish rock band established in 1978. They first received interest when they won the first Humo's Rock Rally in 1978, but didn't get a record contract. They self released their first three singles. They recorded their first single ''Nummer een'' in London. It became their first success. After these three singles, they signed with Warner Bros. and released in 1981 '' 's Nachts kouder dan buiten''. It sold 30,000 copies. By the time of their second album, 1982's ''Er sterft een beer in de taiga'', they were one of Flanders' most successful bands, and the record became gold in two days time. Antoine Gerard Theodore "Toon" Hermans (17 December 1916 – 22 April 2000) was a noted Dutch comedian, singer and writer. Toon Hermans was born in Sittard. He began performing in the 1930s, achieving local, regional and, eventually, national fame in the Netherlands as a comedian during the post-war decades. Willem Vermandere (born February 9, 1940 in Lauwe, Belgium) is a Belgian singer, Flemish cabaret artist, writer, sculptor, guitarist and painter. His songs are written and sung in the dialect of the South of West-Flanders in Belgium.
