Nejib Ayed
Nejib Ayed ( ar, نجيب عياد; December 13, in Ksar Hellal, 1953 in Ksar Hellal – August 16, 2019) was a Tunisian producer. He was the executive director of the Carthage Film Festival in 2017 and 2018. Biography Born in 1953 in Ksar Hellal, in the Sousse region, Néjib Ayed is part of a generation that has combined a passion for cinema and an almost militant commitment within the Tunisian Federation of Film Clubs. In the 1970s, marked by Burgundian authoritarianism, these circles represented spaces for political learning. After studying French literature, Néjib Ayed tried his hand at film criticism before joining, in 1980, the Tunisian Anonymous Company for Cinematographic Production and Expansion (Satpec), a public institution (privatized since) which groups all stages cinematographic: the production for which he was responsible, but also the production, exploitation, and distribution. A film producer is a person who oversees film production. Either employed by a production company or working independently, producers plan and coordinate various aspects of film production, such as selecting the script, coordinating writing, directing, editing, and arranging financing. The producer is responsible for finding and selecting promising material for development. Unless the film is based on an existing script, the producer hires a screenwriter and oversees the script's development. These activities culminate with the pitch, led by the producer, to secure the financial backing that enables production to begin. If all succeeds, the project is "greenlighted". Carthage Film Festival
The Carthage Film Festival (CFF) is an annual film festival that takes place in Tunis and founded in 1966. It is also called by its abbreviation JCC, from its French name, , or by its Arabic title, (''Cinema Days of Carthage''). Initially biennial alternating with the Carthage Theatre Festival, the festival became an annual event in 2014. A directing committee chaired by the Tunisian Ministry of Culture, joined with professionals of the cinema industry, is in charge of the organization. The Carthage Film Festival has been designed as a film festival engaged in the cause of African and Arab countries and enhancing the South cinema in general. ''Shadow of the Earth'' ( ar, Dhil al ardh) is a 1982 Tunisian drama film directed by Taïeb Louhichi. It was entered into the 13th Moscow International Film Festival and was also screened by the International Critics' Week in Cannes Festival. Plot This film follows the last members of an isolated border encampment. The patriarch of the community lives in one of the four tents that make up the entirety of the camp, along with a sheepfold. The three other tents are inhabited by the patriarch's son and nephews along with their families. Their wheat provisions are slowly running out, and their cattle, stricken by an unknown disease, is dying. The patriarch's sons leave the community and head north to join the army or to try their luck abroad.
