Neiafu (Samoa)
Neiafu is a village on the island of Savai'i in Samoa. It is in the Alataua Sisifo electoral district and located at the south west corner of the island. The population of Neiafu Uta is 601 and Neiafu Tai is 307. Like many villages in Samoa, Neiafu has two settlements Neiafu Tai (coastal) and Neiafu Uta (inland). The settlement was previously situated by the sea, but with the advent of the modern island road, many families have moved several kilometers inland for convenience. The inland settlement, Neiafu Uta, is relatively recent. The village has close kinship ties to Satupa'itea village. Neiafu-Tai is also famous in Samoan history, this is where the last Tongan warriors got on their ships and left Samoa at the end of Tongan domination of the archipelago. As they left, Tu'i Tonga said: Mālie toa, mālie tau - "brave warriors, bravely fought". The Samoan chiefly family Malietoa takes it name from this event. Malietoa
Mālietoa ( ''Mālietoa'') is a state dynasty and one of the four paramount chiefly titles of Samoa. It is the titular head of one of the two great royal families of Samoa: Sā Malietoa. Literally translated as "great warrior", the title's origin comes from the final words of the Tongan warriors as they were fleeing on the beach to their boats, "Malie To`a, Malo e tau..." ("Great warrior, thank you for the war). Opeta Palepoi
Opeta Palepoi (born 2 December 1975) is a Samoan rugby union footballer, with 48 caps. He currently plays for Scottish side Gala RFC. He has previously played for Glasgow Warriors, Border Reivers and English club Harlequins. His first start for Glasgow Warriors was in season 2002–03. He played in the 2002–03 Scottish Inter-District Championship, the Bank of Scotland Pro Cup, against Border Reivers on 31 December 2002. The Warriors lost the match 21–6. Manu Samoa
The Samoa national rugby union team (also known as Manu Samoa) represents Samoa in men's international rugby union and it is governed by the Samoa Rugby Union. They are also known as Manu Samoa, which is thought to derive from the name of a Samoan warrior. They perform a traditional Samoan challenge called the siva tau before each game. Samoa Rugby Union were formerly members of the Pacific Islands Rugby Alliance (PIRA) along with Fiji and Tonga. They are ranked 11th in the world. Rugby was introduced to Samoa in the early 1920s and a governing body was soon formed. The first international was played as Western Samoa against Fiji in August 1924.
