Ned Randolph
Edward Gordon "Ned" Randolph, Jr. (February 1, 1942 – October 4, 2016), was an American politician who served in the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1972 to 1976, in the Louisiana State Senate from 1976 to 1984, and as mayor of Alexandria, Louisiana from 1986 to 2006. Randolph ran for a seat in the United States House of Representatives in 1982 and 1992, losing both campaigns. In 1997, Randolph lost a bid for a seat on the Louisiana Circuit Courts of Appeal. Randolph was inducted into the Louisiana Political Museum and Hall of Fame in 2008. Death and legacy Randolph died on October 4, 2016, from complications of Alzheimer's disease. In many countries, a mayor is the highest-ranking official in a municipal government such as that of a city or a town. Louisiana Circuit Courts Of Appeal
The Louisiana Circuit Courts of Appeal are the intermediate appellate courts for the state of Louisiana. There are five circuits, each covering a different group of parishes. Each circuit is subdivided into three districts. As with the Louisiana Supreme Court, the regular judicial terms on the courts of appeal are ten years. Bastrop, Louisiana
Bastrop is a city in Morehouse Parish, Louisiana. It is the parish seat of Morehouse Parish. The population was 11,365 at the 2010 census, a decrease of 1,623 from the 12,988 tabulation of 2000. The population of Bastrop is 73 percent African American. It is the principal city of and is included in the Bastrop, Louisiana Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is included in the Monroe-Bastrop, Louisiana Combined Statistical Area. History Bastrop was founded by the Felipe Enrique Neri, Baron de Bastrop, a Dutch businessman accused as an embezzler. He had fled to the then Spanish colony of Louisiana to escape prosecution, and became involved in various land deals. In New Spain, he falsely claimed to be a nobleman. He received a large grant of land, provided that he could settle 450 families on it over the next several years. However, he was unable to do this, and so lost the grant. Bentley Hotel
Bentley Hotel, usually known as the Hotel Bentley, is a classic Renaissance-style hotel located near City Hall in downtown Alexandria in central Louisiana. Description and history The hotel was built by the timber baron Joseph Bentley at a cost of $700,000; allegedly because he had been refused dinner service at another local hotel for not being properly attired. It opened to the public in August, 1908, and Mr Bentley lived in the hotel until his death in 1938. On November 15, 1979, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The hotel was once owned by the Pineville real estate developer Buddy Tudor, who worked for its historic preservation. Former owner Robert G. "Bob" Dean, Jr., of Baton Rouge closed the hotel in December 2004 and placed it on the market, at one time asking $12 million. John Bel Edwards
John Bel Edwards (born September 16, 1966) is an American politician and attorney serving as the 56th governor of Louisiana since 2016. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously served as the Democratic leader of the Louisiana House of Representatives for two terms. Edwards was first elected to the Louisiana House in 2007. He defeated Republican U.S. Senator David Vitter in the second round of the 2015 election for governor. Edwards won a second term in 2019, becoming the first Democrat to win reelection as governor of Louisiana since Edwin Edwards (no relation) in 1975. The Louisiana State Senate (french: Sénat de Louisiane) is the upper house of the state legislature of Louisiana. All senators serve four-year terms and are assigned to multiple committees. Composition The Louisiana State Senate is composed of 39 senators elected from single-member districts from across the state of Louisiana by the electors thereof. Senators must be a qualified elector (registered voter), be at least eighteen years of age, be domiciled in their district for at least one year, and must have been a resident of the state for at least two years. The senate is the judge of its members' qualifications and elections. All candidates for a senate seat in a district run in a nonpartisan blanket primary and in a runoff if necessary.
