Ned D. Heindel
Ned D. Heindel (September 4, 1937) is an American chemist. He is the Howard S. Bunn Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Chemistry at Lehigh University, where he continues to do research. Heindel also works as a medical research consultant. Heindel's research focuses on diagnostic and therapeutic drug development. He served as president of the American Chemical Society in 1994, and has twice chaired the ACS Division for the History of Chemistry. Early life Ned Duane Heindel was born on September 4, 1937 in Red Lion, York County, Pennsylvania, to Mr. and Mrs. Penrose H. Heindel. He earned a B.S. in chemistry from Lebanon Valley College (1959), and a master's degree (1961) and Ph.D. (1963) from the University of Delaware, where he worked with William A. Mosher. He did postdoctoral work at Princeton University in 1964 with Edward C. Taylor. Red Lion (Pennsylvania Dutch: ''Rot Leeb'') is a borough in York County, Pennsylvania, settled in 1852 and incorporated on January 16, 1880. The population was 6,506 at the 2020 census. History Red Lion, settled in 1852, was named after one of the first pubs in town, the Red Lion Tavern. Epidermal Growth Factor
Epidermal growth factor (EGF) is a protein that stimulates cell growth and differentiation by binding to its receptor, EGFR. Human EGF is 6-k Da and has 53 amino acid residues and three intramolecular disulfide bonds. EGF was originally described as a secreted peptide found in the submaxillary glands of mice and in human urine. EGF has since been found in many human tissues, including platelets, submandibular gland (submaxillary gland), and parotid gland. Initially, human EGF was known as urogastrone. Indomethacin
Indometacin, also known as indomethacin, is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) commonly used as a prescription drug, prescription medication to reduce fever, pain, joint stiffness, stiffness, and swelling (medical), swelling from inflammation. In biochemistry, intercalation is the insertion of molecules between the planar bases of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). This process is used as a method for analyzing DNA and it is also the basis of certain kinds of poisoning. There are several ways molecules (in this case, also known as ''ligands'') can interact with DNA. Ligands may interact with DNA by covalently binding, electrostatically binding, or intercalating.
