Neckarsulmer SU
Neckarsulmer SU is a German sports club from the town of Neckarsulm, Baden-Württemberg. The football club's greatest success has been promotion to the tier five Oberliga Baden-Württemberg in 2016 and participation in the first round of the 2013–14 DFB-Pokal. The club also has, among many others, a rugby union department, with the team playing in the 2. Rugby-Bundesliga since 2012. The women's handball team played in the Bundesliga. Football History The origins of the club date back to 1908 when two football clubs were formed in Neckarsulm, Phoenix 08 and 1. FC Neckarsulm. Two years later the two clubs merged to form Sportverein Neckarsulm. After years of playing in the lower amateur leagues of Württemberg the club won promotion to the tier three Amateurliga Württemberg in 1958. Oberliga Baden-Württemberg
The Oberliga Baden-Württemberg is the highest association football league in the state of Baden-Württemberg and the Baden-Württemberg football league system. It is one of fourteen Oberligas in German football, the fifth tier of the German football league system. Until the introduction of the 3. Liga in 2008 it was the fourth tier of the league system, and until the introduction of the Regionalligas in 1994 the third tier. Overview The league was formed in 1978 as the highest level of play in the state. Previous to that, the four Amateurligas Nordwürttemberg, Schwarzwald-Bodensee, Südbaden and Nordbaden formed the tier right below the 2nd Bundesliga. Neckarsulm
Neckarsulm () is a city in northern Baden-Württemberg, Germany, near Heilbronn, and part of the district of Heilbronn. , Neckarsulm had 26,800 inhabitants. The name Neckarsulm derives from the city's location where the Neckar and Sulm rivers meet. Neckarsulm is known for its renewable energy projects and wine. The Weingärtnergenossenschaft Neckarsulm-Gundelsheim (winegrower's cooperative of Neckarsulm and Gundelsheim) is the oldest winegrower's collective in Germany. The wine Trollinger and Lemberger are the principal varieties of grape grown in this region. The 2013–14 DFB-Pokal was the 71st season of the annual German football cup competition. It began on 2 August 2013 with the first of six rounds and ended on 17 May 2014 with the final at the Olympiastadion in Berlin. Bayern Munich went on to win the competition for the second season running, defeating Borussia Dortmund 2–0 in the final. The Amateurliga Württemberg was the highest football league in the region of the Württemberg Football Association and the third tier of the German football league system from its inception in 1945 until the formation of the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg and the Verbandsliga Württemberg below it in 1978. The Bitburger-wfv-Pokal is one of the 21 regional cup competitions of German football. The winner of the competition gains entry to the first round of the German Cup. It was introduced in 1945. In 2011 the cup was renamed from WFV-Pokal into Bitburger-wfv-Pokal because of a new name sponsoring by the brewery Bitburger. The Verbandsliga Württemberg is a German amateur football division administered by the Württemberg Football Association, one of the 21 German state football associations. Being the top flight of the Württemberg state association, the Verbandsliga is currently a level 6 division of the German football league system. History The Verbandsliga Württemberg was introduced along with the superordinate Oberliga Baden-Württemberg in 1978 as a merger between the Amateurliga Nordwürttemberg and the Amateurliga Schwarzwald-Bodensee.
