Dakota City is a city in Dakota County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 1,919 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Dakota County. Tyson Foods' largest beef production plant is located in Dakota City. History Dakota City was platted in 1856. It was named for the Dakota people. Dakota City was incorporated as a city in 1858. Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Dakota City is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. On May 1, 2020, 669 workers at the local Tyson Foods meat packaging plant were infected with COVID-19 which resulted in the closure of the plant until May 4 for the sanitation to take place. South Sioux City is a city in Dakota County, Nebraska, United States. It is located immediately across the Missouri River from Sioux City, Iowa, and is part of the Sioux City, IA-NE- SD Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 13,353, making it the 14th largest city in Nebraska. History Meriwether Lewis and William Clark passed through the South Sioux City area in 1804. European settlement on the Nebraska side of the river began as early as 1854. Several town sites were platted and incorporated in the 1850s. Dakota County is a county in the U.S. state of Nebraska. As of th2020 United States Census the population was 21,582. Its county seat is Dakota City. Dakota County is part of the Sioux City, IA–NE– SD Metropolitan Statistical Area. In the Nebraska license plate system, Dakota County is represented by the prefix 70 (it had the 70th-largest number of vehicles registered in the county when the license plate system was established in 1922). In August 2009, the Dakota County Board of Commissioners reversed a decision to abandon this system for alphanumeric plates upon introduction of new license plates in 2011. Nebraska Highway 35 is a highway in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Nebraska. It has a western terminus in Norfolk at U.S. Highway 275 and Nebraska Highway 24 and an eastern terminus at U.S. Highway 77 and U.S. Highway 75 at Dakota City. The highway serves as a connector between Norfolk and Sioux City, Iowa. Route description Nebraska Highway 35 begins in the southeastern portion of Norfolk at US 275 and NE 24. It goes north on an old alignment of US 275 briefly, then turns northeast to go out of Norfolk into farmland. It passes through Hoskins, then goes due east.
