Bradford County is a county in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It is part of Northeastern Pennsylvania. As of the 2020 census, its population was 59,967. Its county seat is Towanda. The county was created on February 21, 1810, from parts of Lycoming and Luzerne Counties. Originally called Ontario County, it was reorganized and separated from Lycoming County on October 13, 1812, and renamed Bradford County for William Bradford, who had been a chief justice of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and United States Attorney General. Bradford County comprises the Sayre, Pennsylvania micropolitan statistical area. Pike Township is a township in Bradford County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is part of Northeastern Pennsylvania. The population was 671 at the 2010 census. Geography Pike Township is located in eastern Bradford County and is bordered by Warren Township to the north, Orwell Township to the west, Herrick Township to the southwest, Stevens Township to the south. To the east is Susquehanna County, with Middletown Township (north) and Rush Township (south) along the border. The borough of Le Raysville is surrounded by Pike Township but separate from it. Sam Dodge
Samuel Edward Dodge (December 19, 1889 – April 5, 1966) was a relief pitcher in Major League Baseball who played between 1921 and 1922 for the Boston Red Sox. Listed at , 170 lb, Dodge batted and threw right-handed. He was born in Neath, Pennsylvania, United States. Neath is a Welsh settlement and is now known only to locals as an area in the eastern district of Pike Township, Bradford County; it no longer appears on most maps. Dodge posted a 4.50 ERA with three strikeouts and 6.0 innings of work in four appearances. He did not have a decision. During his mature life, he worked in the lumber camps of upstate New York. In about 1956, Dodge returned to the village of his birth, Neath, Pa. He lived for a winter at the Roy James farm south of Warren Center, working as a farm hand, helping in the saw mill and sleeping in the barn. Alice Catherine Evans (January 29, 1881 – September 5, 1975) was an American microbiologist. She became a researcher at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. There she investigated bacteriology in milk and cheese. She later demonstrated that ''Bacillus abortus'' (now called ''Brucella abortus'') caused the disease brucellosis (undulant fever or Malta fever) in both cattle and humans. Early life and education Evans was born the younger of two children on a farm in Neath, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, to William Howell, a farmer, and surveyor, and Anne B. Evans, a teacher. Neath was named after Neath, Wales, where Evans's paternal grandparents had emigrated from in 1831.
