Nazran Uprising
The Nazran uprising (russian: Назрановское восстание, Nazranovskoe vosstanie) of the Ingush people against Russian Empire, Russian authorities took place in 1858. In 1858, Russian administration began forcibly enlarging small settlements into larger ones and banning Ingush highlanders from carrying knives. On 23 May, an attempt by the Bailiff of the Nazranians, Nazranian and Orstkhoy, Karabulak peoples to obtain necessary information about the number of residents in Nazranian Society, which brought unrest among the Ingush, became the final impetus for the uprising. Fearing an uprising, the bailiff requested military reinforcements at Nazran. On 24 May, Colonel arrived with Russian troops from Vladikavkaz Fortress. About 5,000 rebels unsuccessfully attempted to storm the Nazran Fortress once they had learned about the capture of deputies they had sent to Zotov. The Caucasian War (russian: Кавказская война; ''Kavkazskaya vojna'') or Caucasus War was a 19th century military conflict between the Russian Empire and various peoples of the North Caucasus who resisted subjugation during the Russian conquest of the Caucasus. It consisted of a series of military actions waged by the Russian Imperial Army and Cossack settlers against the native inhabitants such as the Adyghe, Abaza– Abkhaz, Ubykhs, Chechens, and Dagestanis as the Tsars sought to expand.
