Naz Shahrokh
Naz Shahrokh (born 1969) is an Iranian-born visual artist and educator. She is a conceptual artist and has worked in many mediums, including Persian miniature painting, sculpture, site-specific installation, land art, and video art. Shahrokh lives in Abu Dhabi, and has previously lived in Paris, Los Angeles, and Brooklyn. Early life and education Naz Shahrokh was born in 1969 in Tehran, Pahlavi Iran. She is the great granddaughter of Iranian politician and elected Zoroastrian representative, Keikhosrow Shahrokh. Naz grew up with a great respect for her Zoroastrian faith and for its associated traditions. She had a well-travelled childhood: ‘I was born in Iran,’ explains Shahrokh, ‘but I left when I was four and moved to Paris. At age 11, I moved to Los Angeles, and at age 20 I moved to Brooklyn, New York.’ She speaks Persian, French, and English. Persian Miniature
A Persian miniature (Persian: نگارگری ایرانی ''negârgari Irâni'') is a small Persian painting on paper, whether a book illustration or a separate work of art intended to be kept in an album of such works called a ''muraqqa''. The techniques are broadly comparable to the Western Medieval and Byzantine traditions of miniatures in illuminated manuscripts. Although there is an equally well-established Persian tradition of wall-painting, the survival rate and state of preservation of miniatures is better, and miniatures are much the best-known form of Persian painting in the West, and many of the most important examples are in Western, or Turkish, museums. Minimalism
In visual arts, music and other media, minimalism is an art movement that began in post–World War II in Western art, most strongly with American visual arts in the 1960s and early 1970s.
