Navy Command (Germany)
The Navy Command (german: Marinekommando, MarKdo) is the high command of the German Navy of the Bundeswehr as well as the staff of the Inspector of the Navy, the Navy's highest commander. It was formed in 2012, as a merger of the Navy Office (''Marineamt''), Naval Staff (''Führungsstab der Marine''), and Fleet Command (''Flottenkommando''), as part of a larger reorganization of the Bundeswehr. It is based in Rostock, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Organisation The Navy Command is led by the Inspector of the Navy ranked Vice admiral, he is assisted by the Deputy Inspector of the Navy and Commander of the Fleet, as well as the Navy Commands Chief of Staff. The command is structured in five departments. Rostock
Rostock (), officially the Hanseatic and University City of Rostock (german: link=no, Hanse- und Universitätsstadt Rostock), is the largest city in the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and lies in the Mecklenburgian part of the state, close to the border with Pomerania. With around 208,000 inhabitants, it is the third-largest city on the German Baltic coast after Kiel and Lübeck, the eighth-largest city in the area of former East Germany, as well as the 39th-largest city of Germany. Kay-Achim Schönbach
Kay-Achim Schönbach (born 9 July 1965) was a German vice admiral who served as the Inspector of the Navy of the German Navy from 24 March 2021 to 22 January 2022. Schönbach resigned his position after his political remarks regarding the 2021–2022 Russo-Ukrainian crisis, ongoing Russo-Ukrainian crisis and prospects of Ukraine and Georgia (country), Georgia joining NATO sparked intense opposition from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Ukraine), Ukrainian Foreign Ministry. Inspector Of The Navy
The Inspector of the Navy (german: Inspekteur der Marine) is the commander of the Navy of the modern-day German Armed Forces, the Bundeswehr. Since the various bodies responsible for the high command of the German Navy were merged in 2012, the Inspector has been based at the Navy Command at Rostock. Before then, the Inspector was head of the Naval Staff of the Ministry of Defence, based in Bonn. Both the Inspector and his deputy hold the rank of vice admiral (german: Vizeadmiral). The Inspector is responsible for the readiness of personnel and materiel in the German Navy, in that regard he reports directly to the Federal Minister of Defence. The Inspector commands the Navy Command; however, the subordinate departments of the Navy are led by their heads at Navy Command and do not report directly to the Inspector. Rainer Brinkmann (admiral)
Rainer Maria Brinkmann (born 3 March 1958) is a ''Vizeadmiral'' of the German Navy, and the current Deputy Inspector of the Navy. He previously served in fast attack craft units, and in staff positions, and has a degree in education from the University of the Bundeswehr Hamburg. Military career Brinkmann joined the German Navy as an enlisted member in 1976, serving on the deck (ship), deck crew of ships in the 7th Fast Attack Squadron (''7. Schnellbootgeschwader'') and the ''Gorch Fock (1958), Gorch Fock''. In 1977 he decided to pursue a career as an officer, and after a year of officer training entered the University of the Bundeswehr Hamburg in 1978. He studied education, completing his degree in 1981. He then went training as a weapons officer at the 5th Fast Attack Squadron, based in Kappeln. The German Navy (, ) is the navy of Germany and part of the unified ''Bundeswehr'' (Federal Defense), the German Armed Forces. Navy Office (Germany)
The Navy Office () was a higher command within the German Navy, founded in 1965 and disestablished in 2012. Its original responsibility was training, education and armaments planning for the German Navy. It was situated at Wilhelmshaven until it was relocated to Rostock after German reunification in 1990. In 2001 it was merged with the former Navy Support Command, expanding its responsibilities to include naval logistics. The Marineamt was commanded by a Rear Admiral directly subordinate to the Chief of the Naval Staff in the Ministry of Defence. It was the superior command for all naval schools and bases as well as of some research and development institutions. In 2012, the Marineamt was combined with the Naval Staff in the Ministry of Defence in Bonn and Fleet Command in Glücksburg to form Navy Command (''Marinekommando''), located in Rostock. ''Fleet Command'', previously labelled as ''Jane's Fleet Command'', is a real-time tactics naval warfare simulation computer game released in May 1999. It was developed by Sonalysts Inc. and published by Electronic Arts (EA). The game licensed parts of Jane's Information Group's military information database, which was used as an in-game "Jane's Library", reference material that the player could refer to while in-game. Jane's also licensed to EA the "Jane's" name and the "Jane's Combat Simulations" logo, and the game was marketed under the "Jane's" name, much like the previous "Jane's Fighters Anthology", also published by Electronic Arts. ''Einsatzflottille 1'' (EinsFltl 1 or EF 1) is one of the three brigade-level units of the German Navy, in addition to ''Einsatzflottille 2'' and the Naval Air Command. It is based in Kiel, Schleswig-Holstein, and is under the head of the Navy Command, based in Rostock.
