History The registered race is named after Naturalism, who won the 1993 Caulfield Stakes. Caulfield Racecourse
Caulfield Racecourse Reserve is located nine kilometres from the Melbourne CBD, on the boundary of Caulfield and Caulfield East in Melbourne's south eastern suburbs. The Thoroughbred is a horse breed best known for its use in horse racing. Caulfield Cup
The Caulfield Cup is a Melbourne Racing Club Group 1 Thoroughbred horse race held under handicap conditions, although the Melbourne Racing Club is in the process of turning the race into weight for age (WFA) conditions. This is for all horses aged three years old and older. It takes place over a distance of 2400 metres at the Caulfield Racecourse, Melbourne, Australia in mid October. The prize money is A$5,000,000. History The race has become one of Australia's richest Thoroughbred horse races. The race is held annually on the third Saturday in October, the third day and final day of the Caulfield Carnival. Melbourne Racing Club
The Melbourne Racing Club (MRC) is one of three metropolitan horse racing clubs in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It began life as the Victoria Amateur Turf Club, in 1875 with Mr. E.C. Moore as the club's first Secretary. The Dowling Forest Racecourse in Ballarat was the location for the first VATC race meeting on Friday, 24 March 1876. Within six months the VATC were granted use of Crown land at Caulfield as a permanent home in Melbourne. History and race meetings In 1879, the club staged the first running of the Caulfield Cup, and two years later, introduced the Caulfield Guineas and the Toorak Handicap. Naturalism (19 October 1988 – 13 July 2018) was a New Zealand-bred Australian-trained thoroughbred racehorse. Background Foaled in New Zealand on 19 October 1988, Naturalism was a bay stallion sired by Palace Music, a Kentucky-bred, French-trained racehorse who won the Champion Stakes in 1984. At stud, Palace Music (Naturalism's sire) was best known as the sire of the American champion Cigar. Naturalism was purchased as a yearling for A$35,000 by Anthony Freedman. Racing career Naturalism's wins included three Group One races. According to the Freedman brothers website, Lee Freedman rated Naturalism as one of the five best horses he ever trained. Caulfield Stakes
The Might and Power, registered as the Caulfield Stakes is a Melbourne Racing Club Group One, Group 1 Thoroughbred horse race run under weight-for-age conditions, for three-year-olds and upwards, run over a distance of 2,000 metres at Caulfield Racecourse, Melbourne, Australia. Prizemoney is A$1,000,000. History The race is held annually in October on Caulfield Guineas day, the first day of the MRC Spring Carnival. The conditions of the race in regard to distance and WFA is similar to the W. S. Cox Plate, held a fortnight after the Caulfield Stakes, and many Cox Plate contenders will use this race as a preparatory race. During World War II the race was run at Flemington Racecourse. W S Cox Plate
The W. S. Cox Plate is a Group 1 Thoroughbred horse race for horses aged three years old and over under Weight for age conditions, over a distance of 2040 metres (approximately 1m 2f), that is held by the Moonee Valley Racing Club at Moonee Valley Racecourse, Melbourne, Australia in late October. The race has a purse of A$5,000,000. History The race is named in honour of William Samuel (W. S.) Cox, the racing club's founder. It was first run on Saturday 28 October 1922 with a purse of £1,000. Harlem (horse)
Harlem (foaled 16 February 2012) is a multiple Group 1 winning British bred thoroughbred racehorse. Racing career Originally trained by French trainer André Fabre, Harlem won the Listed Prix Frederic de Lagrange and was placed two other times in Group race company. In 2016 he was sold to international buyers for 520,000 Guineas at the Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale at Newmarket. Harlem continued his racing career in Australia and at his fifth start in the country he won the Naturalism Stakes at odds of 15/1. The following year Harlem was successful in the Group 1 Australian Cup, when ridden by Michael Walker at odds of 60/1. In 2019 he won the Australian Cup again at the odds of 30/1, this time ridden by Jamie Kah. Zipping (horse)
Zipping (24 September 2001 – 22 March 2022) was an Australian champion racehorse who was notable for winning the prestigious Sandown Classic race in four consecutive years. Racing history Zipping won his first Sandown Classic in 2007, defeating Jukebox Johnny, and Baughurst as a 6-year-old. The following year as $3.20 favourite he won a second Classic in defeating Douro Valley and Red Ruler, by 0.2 lengths. In 2009 Zipping made it three on end with his victory over the Peter Snowden trained Purple, and the 2007 Caulfield Cup winner Master O'Reilly. In 2010 Zipping in a five horse field including the David Jones Handicap winner the kiwi Ginga Dude, won his 4th Sandown Classic by 2 lengths defeating Exceptionally and Manighar.
