Natural Reserve Of Murehe
The Murehe Forest (french: Forêt de Murehe; ) is an area of forest in the north of the Kirundo Province of Burundi. It is protected by the Murehe Reserve (french: Réserve de Murehe), part of the Lacs du Nord Aquatic Landscape. Location The Victoria Basin forest–savanna mosaic centers around Lake Victoria and extends through parts of Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Burundi. The portion of this ecosystem in Burundi in limited to the northeast, and includes the Ruvubu National Park and the Murehe Forest Reserve. The Muhere Forest is in the north of Kirundo Province, to the west of Lake Rweru and east of the RN 14 highway, which crosses into Rwanda to the north of Gasenyi. It is in the Commune of Busoni in the ''collines'' of Munazi, Kivo, Yanza, Gatete and Vyanzo. The collines of Muhere have the form of domes separated by small valleys. Kirundo Province
Kirundo Province is one of the eighteen provinces of Burundi. Kirundo has three big lakes: Cohoha, Rweru, and Rwihinda. Lakes Cohoha and Rweru are located in commune Busone, and Lake Rwihinda is in commune Kirundo. Kirundo is the capital city of province Kirundo. Before the climate change, Kirundo was the richest province because of its productive land. Now Kirundo is no longer productive. The climate change devastate the province forever. In fifteen years those three lakes are almost half evaporated. It is the northernmost province and it shares an international border with Rwanda. Lake Mwungere
Lake Mwungere () is a lake in the Kirundo Province of Burundi. Location Lake Mwungere is in the Commune of Ntega in Kirundo Province near the villages of Mariza and Mugina. It is connected by wetlands to the Akanyaru River. The Köppen climate classification is Aw: Tropical savanna, wet. Conservation Lake Mwungere is in the Lacs du Nord Aquatic Landscape Protected Area, created in 2006, which in theory conserves more than of lakes and wetlands with the goal of integrated community management, agricultural production, and lake conservation. The lake is part of the Northern Protected Waterway, a complex of 8 permanent freshwater lakes including lakes Rweru, Cohoha, Rwihinda, Kanzigiri, Gacamirindi, Nagitamo, Narungazi and Mwungere as well as marshes, that form part of the Nile Basin. Akanyaru River
The Akanyaru River is the main tributary of the Nyabarongo River. It rises in the western highlands of Rwanda and Burundi, flows east and then north along the border between those countries before joining the Nyabarongo River. The lower stretches contain important but unprotected wetlands, which are under threat from human activity. Course The Mugere River, a major headwater, rises at an elevation of in Burundi. The Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance Especially as Waterfowl Habitat is an international treaty for the conservation and sustainable use of Ramsar sites (wetlands).
