Natti Love Joys
The Natti Love Joys are an American roots rock reggae band that have been playing live since 2003. They consist of husband and wife duo Anthony "Jatti" Allen and Sonia "Marla" Allen (formerly Sonia Abel). Jatti was previously the bassist for the reggae group The Congos while Marla originates from the all female reggae group Love Joys where she recorded two albums under the Wackies label run by Lloyd Barnes (Bullwackie). The Love Joys consisted of Sonia Abel and her cousin Claudette Brown. Family obligations kept the Natti Love Joys off the circuit until they returned with a collaboration between Kwaku Darkwa of FocalPoint, and Nicolas Da Silva of FlashTV, to release ''ThingZ'' in 2007. Since then, they have released ''Orchestrata'' in 2022. Reggae
Reggae () is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1960s. The term also denotes the modern popular music of Jamaica and its diaspora. A 1968 single by Toots and the Maytals, " Do the Reggay" was the first popular song to use the word "reggae", effectively naming the genre and introducing it to a global audience. While sometimes used in a broad sense to refer to most types of popular Jamaican dance music, the term ''reggae'' more properly denotes a particular music style that was strongly influenced by traditional mento as well as American jazz and rhythm and blues, and evolved out of the earlier genres ska and rocksteady. The Congos
The Congos are a reggae vocal group from Jamaica which formed as the duo "Ashanti" Roy Johnson (tenor) (b. Roydel Johnson, 1947, Hanover, Jamaica) and Cedric Myton (falsetto) (b. 1947, Saint Catherine Parish, Jamaica), later becoming a trio with the addition of Watty Burnett (baritone) (b. early 1950s, Port Antonio, Jamaica), and have been active on and off from the mid-1970s until the present day. They are best known for their ''Heart of the Congos'' album, recorded with Lee "Scratch" Perry. History Myton had previously been a member of The Tartans in the late 1960s (along with Prince Lincoln Thompson, Devon Russell and Lindburgh Lewis), and Ras Michael's group, and had recorded with Thompson's Royal Rasses in the mid-1970s. Wackies
Wackies is an American independent record label specialized in reggae and dub music. Lloyd Barnes founded the label in 1976, and it is possibly the longest-running American recording studio for reggae. History Wackie's is run by Lloyd "Bullwackie" Barnes, who was born in Trench Town, Jamaica, and moved to New York in 1967. He worked construction and bought the equipment for the studio at the nearby Sam Ash store. He started his studio at 4781 White Plains Road in The Bronx, as one of the earliest reggae studios in the country, with a record store named Wackie's House of Music nextdoor. Low on money, he had to be technically resourceful; his recording techniques added to the distinct quality of the sound. Barnes recorded upcoming and lesser-known artists, with a backing band called Wackie's Rhythm Force.
