Nationalteatern
Nationalteatern is a Swedish progg rock group from the 1970s that featured leftist political lyrics. It was originally a traveling theater ensemble with many members, most notably Ulf Dageby, Anders Melander, Totta Näslund, Nikke Ström, Hans Mosesson and Pale Olofsson. History Initially formed as a free theater group in Lund in 1968, Nationalteatern moved to Gothenburg and started to put heavy emphasis on the musical part of the plays. The leader of the group in the early days was Anders Melander, who also played most of the instruments on the group's debut album, ''Ta det som ett löfte...ta det inte som ett hot'' (Take it as a promise...don’t take it as a threat). On the second album, ''Livet är en fest'' (Life is a party), Ulf Dageby was allowed more creative room, and he later evolved into the group's driving force. Ulf Dageby
Ulf Thorbjörn Dageby (born 10 May 1944) is a Swedish rock musician, singer and songwriter. Dageby is mostly known for his role in the leftist "rock orchestra" and theater ensemble Nationalteatern. At the 18th Guldbagge Awards he won the Special Achievement award. Biography He was born and grew up in Gothenburg, attended secondary school at Hvitfeldtska and early on his interest in music grew from jazz music, through Bob Dylan to a more rock’n’roll oriented sound. He joined Nationalteatern in 1971 as guitar player and soon became the leading member when it came to writing the group's songs, such as "Barn av vår tid" (Children of Our Time) and "Bara om min älskade väntar", a Swedish translation of Bob Dylan's "Tomorrow is a long time". In 1975 Dageby appeared under the pseudonym "Sillstryparn" at the "Alternativfestival" – an alternative to the Eurovision song contest – performing "Doin the omoralisk schlagerfestival" ("Doin' the Immoral Schlager festival"). Totta Näslund
Erik Torsten "Totta" Näslund (1 April 1945 – 19 June 2005) was a Swedish blues musician and actor. Biography Näslund was born in Sandviken and grew up in the small northern town Köpmanholmen, but moved to Gothenburg in 1970 to find work. He was working in the Gothenburg docks when he joined Nynningen, a rock group with leftist political texts and inspired by the Russian Communist poet Mayakovsky. Totta Näslund became the group's main singer. In the mid-1970s, Nynningen fused with Nationalteatern, a musical theater ensemble with many members. Totta Näslund joined the group as singer, guitar-player and actor. Nationalteatern developed away from the theater and became a straight rock group, a ''rock orchestra'' as they called themselves. Mattias Hellberg
Mattias Hellberg (born 13 June 1973) is a Swedish musician. Hellberg has worked with a variety of Swedish bands and artists in different genres, both as a permanent member and as guest or session member. Recording career Hellbergs career started when his band Nymphet Noodlers was discovered and later produced by Ebbot from The Soundtrack of our Lives. Wayne Kramer of the MC5 once said that the Nymphet Noodlers was one of his favorite bands. Nymphet Noodlers broke up in 1996, but was reunited for a concert at Way out West August 2011. Former Nymphet colleagues Hederos and Hellberg recorded 8 cover songs meant to be a demo to get gigs in bars in 1996. Old friend Niclas Stenholm released the songs on the album M. Hederos M. Hellberg in 2000. Hederos & Hellberg turned out to be a totally unexpected success. Nikke Ström
Nikke Ström (born 8 June 1951) is a Swedish rock musician, mostly known as the bass player in Nationalteatern. Ström was born and raised in Karlskoga, where he played in different bands. In the beginning of 1970 he studied philosophy at Stockholm University. He had become politically active in the leftist movement against the Vietnam War, and he was chairman of the FNL group in his hometown Karlskoga. Not to be confused with the English expressions "progressive music" or "prog rock," progg is a contraction of the Swedish word for musical progressivism, ''progressiv musik''. While there were progg bands playing progressive rock, the progg movement encompassed many different musical genres. Hans Mosesson
Hans Kristoffer Mosesson (born 1 August 1944) is a Swedish actor and musician. Hans Mosesson was born in the Enskede district of Stockholm. He studied medicine at the University of Lund in the 1970s. In Lund, he met the newly founded leftist theater and musical group Nationalteatern, and Mosesson quit his studies and joined the group and moved with them to Gothenburg. He both wrote and sang the songs "Plast's sång" and "Lägg av!", among others. Mosesson has also been in many Swedish films and TV-productions. In recent years, he has become a household face in Sweden after starring in a long-running series of commercials for grocery chain ICA. The Hellacopters
The Hellacopters are a Swedish garage rock band that was formed in 1994 by Nicke Andersson (vocals and guitar), Andreas Tyrone "Dregen" Svensson (guitar), Kenny Håkansson (bass) and Robert Eriksson (drums). Andersson (sometimes known as Nick Royale) had been the drummer for death metal band Entombed and Dregen was taking a break from his full-time band Backyard Babies. Dregen and Eriksson had been roadies for Entombed, while Håkansson was a childhood friend of Andersson's.
