The National Sports Committee of Indonesia ( id, Komite Olahraga Nasional Indonesia, abbreviated KONI) is the sports governing body of Indonesia. It was founded in 1946 to unite the various satellite sports associations that was created within the regions of Indonesia. KONI is responsible on sport development as well as organising sporting events within Indonesian national boundary on national level. It organizes the National Sports Week (Indonesia), Pekan Olahraga Nasional (PON), multi-sport event held every four years where Indonesian athletes compete. It is the largest sporting event in Indonesia. In 2005, KOI (''Komite Olimpiade Indonesia'' or Indonesian Olympic Committee) was formed as a separate entity from KONI. Wismoyo Arismunandar
Wismoyo Arismunandar (10 February 1940 – 28 January 2021) was an Indonesian high-ranking Army officer who served as Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army, Army Chief of Staff from 1993 to 1995 and Commander of Army Strategic Command (Indonesia), Commander of Army Strategic Command from 1990 to 1993. He was brother-in-law of Suharto, the second President of Indonesia. His brother, was Director General of Electricity and New Energy (1983–1995). Another brother, Wiranto Arismunandar was rector of Bandung Institute of Technology (1988–1997) who was also Minister of Education and Culture (1998). He died on 28 January 2021. Indonesia first participated at the Olympic Games in 1952 and has sent athletes to compete in every Summer Olympic Games since then, except for 1964, due to controversy around the Games of the New Emerging Forces, and 1980, when they participated in the U.S.-led boycott of the 1980 Summer Olympics. Indonesia is yet to participate in the Winter Olympic Games. The National Olympic Committee for Indonesia was created in 1946 and recognized in 1952. Sports in Indonesia are popular from both the participation and spectating aspect. Some popular sports in Indonesia are football, volleyball, basketball, badminton, and the native Indonesian martial art pencak silat. Badminton is arguably Indonesia's most successful sport. Indonesia has won gold medals in badminton in every Olympic Games since the sport was first introduced to the Olympics in 1992, with the exception of the 2012 Summer Olympics. Lieutenant General (Ret) Marciano Norman (born Banjarmasin, 28 October 1954) is the former Director the Indonesian State Intelligence Agency. Biography Norman was born in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan on 28 October 1954 to Norman Sasono and his wife. He graduated from the Indonesian Military Academy in 1978 and began his military career by commanding the Yonkav 7 Platoon, in the Kodam Jaya military area.
