National Scout Active Support Unit
Scout Active Support is a section of The Scout Association in the United Kingdom that provides support to delivering the youth programme of the Scouts. This support is carried out by Scout Active Support Units, which can be based at every level of the association with 35 national units (as of January 2020) and over 1,400 other units at county, district and group levels. The section was first formed in 1948 as the B-P Guild of Old Scouts but was known as the Scout Fellowship between 1976 and 2009 when the current name of Scout Active Support was chosen to more accurately reflect the aims of the section as it was changed to make them more proactive and flexible. Youlbury Scout Activity Centre
Youlbury Scout Activity Centre is one of a number of The Scout Association's National Scout Activity Centres in the United Kingdom and is the oldest permanent Scout campsite in the world (while Brownsea Island was the site of the first campsite, it was a private island for many years after). The Centre, which is based near Oxford, is open to Scouts from around the world, and offers many activities as well as camping and accommodation in huts. History The site was first used as a meeting place and camping field in 1913 when the site owner, Sir Arthur Evans, had a cabin built for a local Scout patrol. This building was demolished in the 1980s, but many other of the original buildings still stand. Downe Scout Activity Centre
Downe Scout Activity Centre is one of the National Scout Activity Centres under the direct control of The Scout Association in Downe near Orpington, Greater London. It provides camping and indoor accommodations for Scouts and Guides. The Downe site of 86 acres is from the centre of London near the Biggin Hill airfield. In November 2020 the Scout Association announced their intention to sell the site. The Scout Association said it would do everything possible "to make sure that the legacies are honoured and heritage preserved" In late July 2021 The Scout Association trustees unanimously agreed to sell the site to Friends of Downe Activity Centre, a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (Registered Charity Number 1194761). Scout Adventures (The Scout Association)
Scout Adventures are a network of activity centres run by The Scout Association. They offer outdoor facilities, adventurous activities and experiences for members of the Scout Association, other youth organisations and school groups. The centres typically have capacity for hundreds of Scouts simultaneously, often including indoor accommodation in addition to camping. Staffed by qualified instructors, they offer adventurous activities and training for adult volunteers and young people following the badges of the Scout programme. Scout Radio
Scout Radio is a National Scout Active Support Unit (NASU) of The Scout Association with the aim of supporting broadcast radio within scouting. It was initially formed in 2009 following the founding Manager Martin Steers and the founding members running Wings FM at the WINGS Jamboree, and received formal status as an NASU in 2012. Since then the team has gone on to run many successful event radio stations, for Jamborees mainly under the Jam FM brand, be a source for news and interviews for senior members of Scouting, and provide resources to enable scouts to do radio to earn badges.
