National Road Safety Commission
The National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) is a Ghanaian state agency responsible for road safety education in Ghana. History The commission was established by an act of parliament in 1999. The commission's mandate is backed by ACT 567. Structure The commission is under the inistry of Transportof the Republic of Ghana. Functions of the commission The mandate of the commission allows the NRSC to promote and coordinate Road Safety activities in Ghana. Road accident statistics The function of the commission is important to all aspects of the Ghanaian economy. This is because road accidents are a national issue in Ghana. Statistics show that four people die daily on Ghanaian roads due to road accident. Estimates show that Ghana loses over 230 million dollars yearly due to road accidents with more than 1600 deaths. The Ghana Police Service (GPS) is the main law enforcement agency of Ghana. The service is under the control of the Ghanaian Ministry of the Interior, and employs over 30,000 officers across its 651 stations. The Parliament of Ghana is the legislative body of the Government of Ghana. History Legislative representation in Ghana dates back to 1850, when the country was a British colony known as Gold Coast. Motor Transport And Traffic Unit
The Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) is an agency under the Ghana Police Service. MTTD is responsible for road safety in Ghana. History The MTTD was established in 1952. Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) of Ghana is the government agency responsible for the licensing and evaluation of drivers and cars in Ghana. History DVLA was established in 1999 by Act 569 of Ghana's parliament. The Building and Road Research Institute (BRRI) is a research Institute under the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research of Ghana. It is based in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. BRRI is a research institute. History The institute was established in 1952 and was known as the West African Building Research Institute in Accra. It was made up of building engineers from Ghana and Nigeria. The institute had a name change in 1960 when the institute's members from Nigeria left to form the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute.
