Augusta Country Club
The Augusta Country Club (ACC) is a country club and golf course in Augusta, Georgia. It is located immediately adjacent to the more famous Augusta National Golf Club (ANGC). It also borders on the Sands Hill Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a historic African-American community. History In 1897, the 9-hole golf course known as the Bon Air Golf Club was designed by Donald Ross. In 1901, the course was expanded to 18-holes and then became known as the Augusta Country Club. In 1930, ACC held their first major national golf championship, the Southeastern Open, where amateur Bobby Jones defeated professional Horton Smith. In 2001, ACC successfully completed a restoration based on original 1927 Donald Ross sketches from the Tufts Archives in Pinehurst, North Carolina, which is how it remains today. George Walton
George Walton (c. 1749 – February 2, 1804), a Founding Father of the United States, signed the United States Declaration of Independence as a representative of Georgia and also served as the second chief executive of Georgia. Early life Walton was born in Cumberland County, Virginia. The exact year of Walton's birth is unknown; it is believed that he was born in 1749. Research has placed it as early as 1740, but others as late as 1749 and 1750. The biographer of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, Della Gray Bartholomew, uses 1741. His parents died when he was an infant, which resulted in his adoption by an uncle with whom he entered apprenticeship as a carpenter. Walton was a studious young man, but his uncle actively discouraged all study and believed a studious boy to be an idle one. Hephzibah () is a city in southern Richmond County, Georgia, Richmond County, in the United States, U.S. state of Georgia (U.S. state), Georgia. It is part of the Augusta metropolitan area. The population was 4,011 at the 2010 census. ''Hephzibah'' is a poetic name used in the Book of Isaiah (Isaiah 62#Verse 4, 62:4) to refer to Jerusalem, meaning "My delight is in Her." History Hephzibah was originally named Brothersville, in honor of three brothers who settled near one another. In October 1860, a Baptist seminary was established in Brothersville by a group of Appling, Georgia, Appling residents. They established the Hephzibah Baptist Church in 1862. Augusta National Golf Club
Augusta National Golf Club, sometimes referred to as Augusta or the National, is a golf club in Augusta, Georgia, United States. Unlike most private clubs which operate as non-profits, Augusta National is a for-profit corporation, and it does not disclose its income, holdings, membership list, or ticket sales. Founded by Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts, the course was designed by Jones and Alister MacKenzie and opened for play in 1932. Since 1934, the club has played host to the annual Masters Tournament, one of the four men's major championships in professional golf, and the only major played each year at the same course. Martinez ( ) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Columbia County, Georgia, United States. It is a northwestern suburb of Augusta and is part of the Augusta, Georgia metropolitan area. The population was 35,795 at the 2010 census. Geography Martinez is located in eastern Columbia County at (33.516089, -82.100024). It is bordered to the southeast by the city of Augusta in Richmond County. To the north and northwest is the CDP of Evans. Interstate 20 forms the short southern boundary of Martinez, with access from Exits 194 (Georgia State Route 383/South Belair Road) and 195 (Wheeler Road). Wrightsboro Road
Wrightsboro Road is a major road in the east-central part of the U.S. state of Georgia, traveling through the northwestern part of McDuffie County, the extreme northern part of Warren County, the southeastern part of Wilkes County, the southern part of Columbia County, and the northeastern part of Richmond County. It consists of two disconnected segments. The western segment, which is a north–south highway, extends from Georgia State Route 17 (SR 17) and the northern terminus of Harrison Road in Thomson to US 78/ SR 10/SR 17 southeast of Washington. Richmond County is a county located in the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2010 census, the population was 200,549. It is one of the original counties of Georgia, created February 5, 1777. Following an election in 1995, the city of Augusta (the county seat) consolidated governments with Richmond County. The consolidated entity is known as Augusta-Richmond County, or simply Augusta.
