Anderson County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. As of the 2020 census, the population was 23,852. Its county seat is Lawrenceburg. The county was formed in 1827 and named for Richard Clough Anderson Jr., a Kentucky legislator, U.S. Congressman and Minister to Colombia. Anderson County is part of the Frankfort, KY Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Lexington-Fayette-Richmond-Frankfort, KY Combined Statistical Area. Lawrenceburg is a home rule-class city in Anderson County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 10,505 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of its county. Lawrenceburg is part of the Frankfort, Kentucky, micropolitan statistical area. History The site of Lawrenceburg was settled in the early 1780s by a German immigrant named Jacob Kaufman and was first called Kaufman's or Coffman's Station. The post office was established as Lawrenceburgh on January 22, 1817, for William Lawrence, a local tavern owner. The community was incorporated as Lawrence in 1820 by the Court of Franklin County (of which it was then a part) but renamed Lawrenceburg in 1827. James Lawrence, a naval officer, is the namesake. Kentucky Route 53 (KY 53) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Kentucky. Route description The route begins at an intersection with KY 555 south of Willisburg and heads northeast through the city. It continues northeast into Anderson County and intersects the Martha Layne Collins Blue Grass Parkway. Just south of Beaver Lake KY 53 turns toward the northwest and forms a concurrency with US 62. Further north in Glensboro, it forms a concurrency with KY 44 and continues northwest, briefly passing through Spencer County before entering Shelby County. In Shelby County, the route passes through Mount Eden and heads northwest into Shelbyville. In Shelbyville, KY 53 intersects Interstate 64 as well as US 60.
