The National Prize of Art of Chile, was created on November 9, 1942. It was awarded yearly since 1944 and alternated the mention among Painting or Sculpture, Music and Theatre. In 1992, it was replaced by the National Prizes of Plastic Arts, Musical Arts and Arts of the Representation and Audiovisual, respectively. Mario Carreño y Morales (May 24, 1913 in Havana, Cuba – December 20, 1999 in Santiago de Chile, Chile) was a Cuban Painting, painter. He studied painting at the Academia de San Alejandro, Havana, Cuba from 1925 until 1926. In 1934, he studied at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, Madrid, Spain. Ana Cortés
Ana Emma del Rosario Cortés Jullian, more commonly known as Ana Cortés (24 August 1895 – 5 January 1998), was a Chilean painter of the Grupo Montparnasse. In 1974, she won the National Prize of Art of Chile, making her the first painter to do so. Biography Ana Cortés was born in Santiago, Chile on 24 August 1895, the third of seven children Ernesto Cortés Ramirez and Ana Jullian Chesi. She studied in the home of Madame Lasaulce as a child, then lived for three years in Paris with her godparents, Alejandro Bertrand and Mercedes Vidal. Returning to Chile, she completed her studies at La Serena High school. Gustavo Becerra-Schmidt
Gustavo Becerra-Schmidt (August 26, 1925 – January 3, 2010) was a Chilean composer. Biography and Career Becerra-Schmidt was born in Temuco, Chile. He studied at The Chilean National Conservatory, and was taught by Pedro Humberto Allende. Then in Europe from 1953 to 1956, where he brought back the avant-garde music culture from Europe to Chile. 3 years later, Becerra-Schmidt became the director of the ''Instituto de Extension Musical'' (IEM) in 1959 to 1962, the IEM was an establishment by Domingo Santa Cruz, it aimed to centralize and manage the Chilean music repertoire and to support Chilean music organizations. Ana González Olea
Ana González Olea (May 4, 1915  – February 21, 2008) was an actress in Chilean theater, television and radio. She was commonly known by her nickname La Desideria. González was born in Santiago on May 4, 1915. She received the National Prize of Art of Chile in 1969 for her work. González died on February 21, 2008, at 8:05pm in her apartment on Miraflores Street in Santiago, Chile. She was 92 years old.
